jazz1
I think you will not stand much of a chance regardless of having Lexus service the vehicle, once tuned/modified the car becomes your problem. Now you stated about him disabling methanol and he insisted not, personally you should have walked away with you car knowing the consequence. It will be Harding proving it is the company as you payed them for the runs and I'm sure they will have a policy in place that you are fully reliable for damages at your own risk. I wish you luck, if you can provide evidence and I mean strong evidence it is the company at fault then take it further, otherwise count your loss and get a cheap engine. Scott
I always thought the afr's would need to be around 11 or things would start to break due to running lean/heat at that sort of boost? The fact that you have all the evidence of the runs would mean you have a good chance in court. If you get an independent check on the engine and the damage has been caused by running the engine lean/hot then I would think it would be an open and shut case to be honest. From your description it would seem the guy had absolutely no clue what he was doing but there are always 2 sides to every story. For the moment it would probably be best to remove the tuners name, as if they were found to not be at fault then you will be doing the company damage through no fault of theirs. Just refer to them as "the tuner" for the moment while you build your case and get advice.
jonathanc
Thanks for the reply mate. I've given them the opportunity to make good on the situation for what is essentially a few days of their time (they are also engine builders). They have declined this, so as you say, I think the next route is to obtain an independent report on the damage. My car has been touched by nobody but Lexus main dealerships over the past 60,000 miles, so this is going to be the first place I take it. Ijust hope that the tuner is potentially ready to foot the bill. Who did the meth install and who did the supercharger then?
Purity14
Ed has years of experience, and I know he has tuned many cars with great results. I dont like his attitude over the internet that he portrays, he is a moderator at http://www.micra.org.uk and owns a 20~year old 0.9cc March ST that has over 200bhp from what I remember. Seems strange in my opinion to constantly run it with those AFRs though.
dr_jekyll
I know its a pain but the engines are dirt cheap and can be changed in a day .I was more peed off when i blew my charger up rather than the engine as it was more expensive.Surely turning the meth off was needed ,if not then you would not of been using it as a safe guard as it would of been mapped using it.My Meth will be off until the car is mapped then reconnected so its there as a safe guard. best point made , its a ge motor , just rumage around the back of the sofa for change and put another one in
