Guest stevie.84
Driving down the A14 and engine heat shot up rapidly then the engine light came on, I pulled over straight away and started to lose power and heard rattling noise, all the coolant got sprayed across engine from pipe at back which had split, why is this car continuing so abuse my wallet, anyway does anyone know actually what this pipe is? Scott
That's the pipe to the heater matrix
Guest stevie.84
Oh right, I'm slightly panicking as I didn't like the feel of power loss and rattling noise, the engine had pretty much peed out all of the coolant!
Guest stevie.84
Just out of curiosity would you know straight away if head gasket has gone?
Guest stevie.84
Oh and my car won't start now
Scott
That doesn't sound good at all mate. I wouldn't try starting to be honest. Ask for someone local who knows their way around them to have a wee look, generally the guys are happy to help out for a few tinnies. Guest stevie.84
yeah i got it started but had to use accelerator to get it going and heard the sound of the engine and switched it straight off - im no mechanic but im sure my engine is kaput! its broke me totally, this last few month ive done nothing but spend on it and had no forgiveness from it, she's going, i cant afford an engine swap as im moving house soon and this makes it hard to break for parts so im going to sell with the engine kaput - obviously that will knock me back a bit but i think its ideal for someone who wants a project car - she's got a good start with bigger wheels aftermarket exhaust and a few mods on the interior to spruce it up, im a broken man at the moment, i will just have to wait till next year and get myself a TT and start again. Havard
So what is the first thing to go when you lose all your coolant? I am assuming that the HG warps and the pistons seize?
TheTurtleshead
I have an N/A engine you can have if you collect it. Only trouble is its miles from you!

Guest stevie.84
So what is the first thing to go when you lose all your coolant? I am assuming that the HG warps and the pistons seize? Well engine temp shot up so I pulled in a first available spot on A14 which was about half mile away, I opened up bonnet and engine was covered on coolant, engine wouldn't restart then after I gave it an hour to cool down, I did try to start it again after but sounded awful so switched it off straight away! Yeah that is a bummer lol, appreciate that though anyway, I love my car too bits but think I'm just going to sell up and start again next year when I start my new job which is far better paid! Then treat myself to a TT
Chris Wilson
It's probably just got water down in the plug wells and the HT is shorting out. Original coolant hoses on an 18 or so year old car should be changed as a matter of course.

Branners
I think most people are just chucking out their NA engines when they go TT, should be able to find one really cheap now and then find a friendly local to help drop it back in. It would also explain it being silly rough when trying to start.
qwarrior
Same thing happened to my TT when I first got it on the A1. Exactly the same pipe. Coolant everywhere, and a misfire I struggled to find. Just turned out there was water shorting stuff. Fixed it by soaking up the water with a bit of kitchen roll, I'm sure you can stretch to 56p from Morrisons, moving house or not. Don't be beaten mate. My car was sooo unreliably when I first got it, but reaping the rewards now.
Guest stevie.84
Yeah the thing is, I want a 6 speed manual TT next year and often see them for around the £8-9k mark, it would cost me more than that probably to convert to TT plus brakes upgrade and transmission change, and car needs a respray as paintwork is poor, thanks for your help and suggestions though I appreciate it, I will just have to be good and wait for the funds to rise, and as I've told my other half, regardless what happens I'm having a TT next year because I love supra's.
