Guest kinkydeviltom
Hi , i have had some trouble with my idle revs, not a biggy but it was hovering around 1000 all the time, so i did alot of reading and found alot of people had same or similar problem that was cured by a good clean of the throttle body, IAC and Throttle position sensor, so i didnt take the throttle body all apart i just removed the air filter and pipe and cleaned in as far as i could get to, i then removed the throttle body sensor cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back on, (is the a special way this must go back on as i just rotated it anti clockwise so the levers went in the put in and slighty rotated clockwise so the sensor went into position) , up to this stage my idle increased to 1400rpm, i then rremoved the IAC and dismantled it and cleaned it with carb cleaner, when putting back together i thought is there a certain way that the this must got back together ex the vavle should be open closed!, when i took it off it was closed, so i put it back together with the valve closed and reinstalled, from this the revs flew up to 2000rpm at idle and stayed there, so i took the iac apart again and manually moved the valve so it was open(meaning sticking out) and put back on, this made my idle drop down to 800rpm which was much better but after a rev it went back up to 1600rpm, only other thing i did was disconnect the battery which i have just found out could be the wrong thing to do, when i went to work this morning the idle started at 2000rpm and settled at 1600, anytime i realeased the accerator to clutch my revs regardless of where it was jumped 400rpm the came down to idle at 1600, any advise on the best way to correct this massive cockup i have done? Chris Wilson
The TPS needs setting up properly. Is this a TT model? If so did you touch the TRAC position pot? They need to be set up EXACTLY right and can be a bit if a nightmare. I can do them for you, but would need the car for a while.
Scott
Get a hold of the manual, an ohmeter and set up the pots according to what the manual says. As Chris said above, it isn't a guessing game.. they have to be set pretty much spot on.
