lust2luv
Okay it's been well over two weeks since I mashed my gearbox (probably synchro problems, and clutch release bearing gone). Since my baby is undrivable, and I can't find anyone to tow me, it looks like I'm gonna have to forego any of the forum Supra gurus and go for one of the following, all of which have a free collection service from Swindon. So was just wondering if anyone had any experience of any of the following?: Three D Transmissions Ltd in Reading / Aldershot Gloucester Road Gearboxes Ltd in Bristol Bristol Transmissions in Bristol (unsurprisingly) Any recommendations gratefully received! Matt Harwood
Just a suggestion, how about paying to get the car trailered up to Pheonix in Watford? - They've just sorted out Ian C's gearbox for a very good price, and fairly quickly too. They're also very famillier with Supra's now and very trusted by a fair few people....
lust2luv
I read Ian's recent post about them with interest, but the cost of getting the car there seems prohibitive, I've had quotes of around £60 callout + £60/hour, which is gonna come in around £300 just to get there. TRD3000GT
get green flag cover for £50 and then a few days later call them saying you broke down and need a tow to phoenix.. Not very ethical but life is too short

lust2luv
Broken my 4th gear synchro in my garage? That would be going some. I think towing to a garage is at their discretion, there's no obligation on their part. And can't see them taking me 100 miles away from where I live in week 1 of my policy. For £35 I could rent a car trailer - anyone wanna gimme a tow? Would still appreciate any word on the above 3 garages?
TRD3000GT
Green Flag has a cover that lets you choose the garage they deliver the car to.
SteveR
I hired a transit and car trailer for £100/day (plus diesel at my expense of course) - and I think I was ripped off - do that to get it there then fetch it a few days later on the train and drive it back maybe? lust2luv
I was told it was really hard to hire anything with a tow hook, and would I be insured whilst towing even if I could?
SteveR
I was told it was really hard to hire anything with a tow hook, and would I be insured whilst towing even if I could? Wasn't hard for me, went to the local van/minibus hire place and they had a few - surely it's not that rare a request? Not sure about insurance - you'd have to ask your company (or maybe it'd be covered by the hired vehicle?? TBH I hadn't thought about that when I did it as the cars I was moving about weren't insured (at all) anyway. Just don't crash
Chris Wilson
I think the costs of professional transport to a specialist will be trivial in the grand scale of the repair bill....
lust2luv
Don't say that! I don't have any money to begin with (hence the NA!) I'm working on the theory that the above guys who know more about gearboxes than Supras would be a better bet than guys who know more about Supras than gearboxes? Make sense? If no-one's used any of them, I think I'm edging towards Three D...
Ian C
I think the costs of professional transport to a specialist will be trivial in the grand scale of the repair bill.... I know you wouldn't consider anything but a full-on rebuild Chris, but I got mine fixed for £360 all in and it's fine So far Only the 5th/6th segment of the box was cracked open so non-reusable parts expenses were minimal, which kept the cost down - I imagine going into the main 1st-to-4th segment would almost double the cost. -Ian PS Chris, did you like the pictures of the synchro ring in this thread ? Get you wincing?
Lazarus
Last time I had to move one of my cars that was undriveable (sp?) I hired a 3.5 tonne VW car transporter for £156 (providing you have the correct classifications on your driving licence) from a place in Andover, if I ever have to move a car again it'll be the only way to go, it was so painless. lust2luv
I'm currently searching the net for companys that hire car transporters, so far with no luck. Will have to check my licence when I get home. Nice to know it's possible.

jiixer
I have used GRGbox's 3 times now for an Evo, BMW and my supra. Each time excellent work, and I rag the hell out of my box's!!!
