TopSecret1
Posting this for a friend as I'm not too sure what to say about it. We weighed his OEM TT rims they were about 25lbs up front and 26.6 in the back. He's looking to order one piece rims... fronts are 27lbs(19x9.5) rear 28lbs(19x10.5). So each corner will have a couple pounds more on it compared to stock. I have read somewhere that adding like 1lb of weight on rims = 3lbs overall to the car? something to do with unsprung weight. Anyone know if a couple pounds on each will will noticeable affect performance? Before I had light 18" volk wheels, when I put heavier 19" on I noticed the car handled more responsive and sharp... but those volks were really light. bodilx6
I'm guessing you won't feel the difference. The most important thing about the unspring weight of wheels - as far as I know - is where the weight is placed. If it is towards the center it won't make that much of a difference, at least not in accelerating the wheel up compared to heavy outer weight. But take your tyre into account as well. That is kind of important if you think of the above. Your feeling regarding 18"->19" is probably due to the lower profile of the tyre or maybe the tyre itself than it being heavier. On the other hand you will probably have a sharper slipping marging compared to the old setup. Generally bigger wheels mean less performance. Especially for a car that was designed around 16" and 17".
