Rattle

On my way to work this morning I discovered that the car has developed a rattle coming from the engine. At first i thought it might be low on oil. when i checked the oil level it was below the min line.

I then drove home to top it up with some spare oil i have in the garage. This hasnt cleared the rattle at all, if any thing its getting worse.

The only way i can describe the sound is to compare it to a rattly diesel engine, i thought one of the hydraulic lifters may have run dry but sureley after 5 miles it should have re-filled again.

Im starting to panic now thinking that is is something far worse. The noise is there all the time but is definitely more prominent between the rev range of 3-4 k. At first i could only hear it when i passed parked cars and walls but now i can hear it when ever.

Help me please. :(

You cannot drive the car till you know for sure what the rattle is, by the fact you think it has hydraulic lifters that rules you out as being qualified, you need to get someone who knows what they are listening for to have a gander while its still rebuildable (if it is damaged), is Chris Wilson near you, very time you drive it you are compounding the problem many times over.

I was fearing you would all say that.

If it needs a re-build then its time for me to leave the supra scene as i really cant afford to do that at all. I have just purchased a house and every penny is accounted for at the min. My other car is in for its mot tomorrow so touch wood it passes.

Is there any one that can come to Preston to have a listen to cast there view on it.

Im not having much luck with the supra at the moment so im starting to think this is the final straw and selling up :(
