Subframe bolts

Hi peeps

This might be a stupid question. Had my Supra up on the ramps so i could check the subframe bolts. Used a torqe wrench to the right spec. Got 3 of the 4 bolts tightend to spec but when trying to tighten up the 4 bolt the wrench clicks but the bolt is still turning. Where as the others are tight. Just wondering if there is a bit of crap around the bolt making it hard to do up or wether i am over tighting the bolt and stretching it if that is possible.

Just wondering what you guys thought.

Have you tried giving it a few turns to see if it will tighten up?

 

It could be loose and/or the threads are damaged.

 

Gave it half a turn just to see if it would tighten felt stiff but not tight. Have been known to snap bolts off at times so was worried about doing this.

Will take the nut off and have a look at the stud and see if i can see any damage.

Is this one of the bolts flush with the body/chassis or one of the other tucked up inside the aluminium parts where you need a deep socket?

 

I only mention it as the ones up near the steering rack are i think quite long and have a captive nut visible from the engine bay, don't they? (some horseshoe type brace is in my minds eye but could be mistaken?)

It's one of the bolts that you need a long socket for. I only checked them because I have knocking from the front when I turn the wheels from left to right when the car is not moving and will do it when the car is moving slow and turning to the right so the left fron is loaded. I'm pretty sure that this bolt is the culprit. Does anyone know how this stud is actully attached to the car chasis?

if you look in the engine bay on the chassis leg (from the side of the bay look down directly behind the suspension tower) you should see x3 bolt heads all linked by a curved horseshoe/boomerange type metal bracket, I believe at least two fo these go all the way down to the nuts you are tightening. Perhaps the horseshoe piece is missing on yours and when you tighten up below the top nut is spinning?
