Guest [email protected]
Hi Guys, Well it would seem that I've cracked the ring lands on my GE pistons, so I'm now on the lookout for some GTE ones What's the best place to pick up a set from? I've searched eBay and had a quick scan on google, but nothing much is turning up. Cheers Jim
Geo
Would it not be easier and cheaper to chuck in another GE engine???
Guest [email protected]
Not if I boost it like I did with the one that just died on me

RobD
I have a set, they need rings though, make me an offer
Guest [email protected]
Well it was 13psi...which may have held up for longer than 30 minutes if the tuner hadn't insisted on 5 consecutive full power runs with the AFR at 14.7 at max boost. Guest [email protected]
I have a set, they need rings though, make me an offer No idea what they go for in the UK I've only seen some for sale at USA prices. Also, how hard are the rings to source?
RobD
Rings you can get from Toyota, quoted me £160 when I checked, I'd advise new rings anyway if you buy second hand pistons just for piece of mind I've got a GTE block with oil squirters also that's in bits ATM, could do a deal on the lot if you fancied it? Blocks been decked, crank is like new and bearings will go again no bother

Can you let me know what ballpark price you're looking for (via pm?). I've no idea how much to offer, only what I've got left in my pockets from what I've thrown at my blown engine so far :s
David P
A stock N/A lump would normally be expected to behave at 13psi, unless you plan to boost more, you could just fit another N/A lump and use a richer tuner.

What figures were/was it generating during it's death rattle?
Guest [email protected]
What figures were/was it generating during it's death rattle? It made 340whp, which was nowhere near its max as the tune was stupidly off. AFR's dipped into the 9's at 200hp and were back at 14.7 by 300hp! It made 340whp, which was nowhere near its max as the tune was stupidly off. AFR's dipped into the 9's at 200hp and were back at 14.7 by 300hp! Maybe you need to upgrade the fuel system? Do you have torque figures? If you used those pistons with a T.T. head and head-gasket you would need to retrofit a T.T. ignition system, T.T. water-pump with it's top-hose and back-bracketries and a T.T. oil pump, then with a T.T. PAS header-tank and a few other odds and sods. Other than a lack of oil squirter's and attracting outbursts of; '' But it's not a real one ! '', you would have a T.T. engine. Nevertheless, if you're keen enough, oil squirter's can be retrofitted.

I'm running 440cc injectors and a Walbro 255, but the one thing I'm possibly missing is a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Do you think that could be the cause of everything leaning out under heavy load regardless of my tuning settings? I wont worry too much about people telling me it's not a real TT, because it's not even a Supra haha. But don't worry, It's still in the Toyota family - an IS300. Guest [email protected]
is he a mad man i already know what something bad is going to happen with the afrs on boost I really don't know. But I'm certainly the mad man now for not going with my gut instinct that he was going to f*k my car up, and yanking him out of the car straight away. Probably doesn't help that he talked me into disconnecting my meth kit too
