zap
Hi, any help would be appreciated. 1994 Twin Turbo Auto Jspec. I was driving to work this morning when suddenly I had a xmas tree load of warning lights come on. The big triangle in the tacho, then on the right panel the oil level low light (orange), then on the left panel the battery charge light (red), the strange resevoir shape to the right of it (red) and finally the car shape with what looks like tail lights on, to the right of that (orange). Got back home checked trans oil and engine oil, all ok, put battery on charge, seemed quite low on charge. Could this flat battery cause all the other things to happen? Car started fine and was running ok even with all alarms on. Have noticed a couple of times recently that tickover is a bit low, both on cold start and normal idle ( approx 1000rpm on cold and slightly less than 500rpm on idle). Cheers. Scott
Sounds like the alternator has gave up the ghost bud. You always get the christmas tree effect when the alternator isn't charging. Fire up the car and put a voltmeter across the terminals to see what it's reading. You should be seeing around 13-14v.
Guest Rsand85
sounds like either a bad earth or alternator on the way out.
zap
Thanks for the replies chaps - I was thinking alternator myself. Best place to get one?

absz
The alternator not charging will only illuminate the battery light not any of the others that are mentioned, possible bad earth or loose battery terminals will be my first check. That's certainly not the case in my experience. I've always seen full on christmas tree

I cannot see the alternator causing the oil warning/brake warning/ etc to come on, I stand corrected:taped:
Scott
Really! I cannot see the alternator causing the oil warning/brake warning/ etc to come on, I stand corrected:taped: I haven't seen it on the Supra, so I could be wrong, but I've seen it on plenty of other cars. The first time I seen it was on my own car and I got a bit of a shock thinking that my car was about to explode, dump fuel, dump oil and light on fire. I was 18 and it was my first car though

I was 18 and it was my first car though yep its quite common on the toYota diesel models were all the lights come on when alternator stops charging, its normally due to one of the small wires on the alternator plug having a bad connection resulting in back feeding, most garages replace the alternator but normally unpluging it and refitting does the trick!
