jazz1
Can anyone help, when I last drove my supra everything was fine, now I just drove it and when accelerating and going past 3000 rpm I'm getting a funny high pitch whinning noise what could this be? chrispot
could it be the wife or girlfriend? or its poss the no.2 turbo on the way out?
jazz1
How could I confirm if it is the turbo 2? Or could it be a leak of the turbo, split pipe?
Havard
Is this happening at 3K or 4k revs. I wouldn't have thought it was the 2nd turbo unless to the revs were well over 3K.
bignum
Has someone sneeked a supercharger in there for you:) or possibly power steering pump.
jazz1
Deffinatly not power steering, the noise is not normal and only happens when I put my foot down and deffinatly when I hit over 3000 rpm?
themodifiedkid
I had a recent problem like this, you get the normal 'turbo whistle' from tubby 1 then about 3k revs or just before another strange noise comes in. Turned out I had a fair few boost leaks from the piping, once i located the leaks and put right everything back to normal. Hope its a cheap fix like this for you mate. Scooter
first thing does it do the same when stopped but the engine revved up over 300rpm? or is it only underload/on boost......
themodifiedkid
With mine it was my fmic hose joiners werent tight enough, (maybe over time had loosened themselves due to constant expansion and contraction maybe) Anyway it was worse where they connect at the throttle body(inlet). I spoke to John (Dude) and he recommended I pressurise the system which i did ,(cheers DUDE) and I could here the air pi$$ing out. Also had a split hose at the back of the engine at the top I think its called egbv vsv . So tightened all intercooler hose joints and replaced the vacuum pipe and ran spot on after that with no nasty noises.

It's only on boost bud, it's fine when stopped and engine revved.

Thanks, my brother is going to help me check it next week, he said it also could be my actuator or leak like you stated. Il see what I can check if no success I might pop it down to a specialist. themodifiedkid
Thats the word i was looking for Actuator, thats where the boost pipe had a split where it connects to the actuator at the back of the engine via vsv. Hope you get it fixed mate.

themodifiedkid
No its easy mate, even for me lol. You can see the actuator when you look in the engine bay at the back at the top, on the drivers side. (thats where my leak was anyway) Edited September 15, 2011 by themodifiedkid (see edit history)
jazz1
Thanks il have a check next week iv found some images explaining the actuator.
themodifiedkid
You probably already know but there is another actuator at the front of the engine on tubby no.1 which a little bit harder to get to but not impossible, just need a torch and a skinny arm lol
jazz1
Wicked lol il give it a try when I'm off work next week to check everything, thanks .
jazz1
Right iv been watching videos on YouTube and few guys who had whining noises and found issues to be with the exhaust manifold to the turbo was lose. Now this problem stsrted when I drove the supra yesturday but before that I drove the car last week with a fat friend in the passenger. When I did come out of my road the car made a knock as it is low and must have been my exhaust as it is sitting low scrape pretty bad, Could a lose exhaust to the turbo or manifold cause whining issues?
