jjs_82
Hi everyone, Quick question i'm thinking about getting 264 camshaft since the car is a vvti do i only change the Exhaust side cam and leave the stock inlet cam? I want 264 cam but i want to keep my vvti how does this work? I have the Valcon vvti controller already in the car. thanks.
Kirk
You can buy a vvti specific cam from HKS which is 264 duration.
jjs_82
ah and there's me thinking i would get away with just changing the exhaust cam. ah well will have to get the 2!
johnny g
To keep the VVTi, you have a few options (Titan, BC, Tomei, HKS), all will involve some kind of aftermarket controller - be it an ECU or HKS Valcon. The exhaust side is the same as the non VVTi.

Kirk
To be fair I suggested the HKS vvti cam because you already have the controller for it so id go with that as I assume your still on stock twins. Anything larger duration would be pointless IMO
jjs_82
im going for a single turbo (s366) and a Syvecs S6 ECU. The 264 cams are basically pnp if im correct. It might have the HKS cam in it when i have the controller but im not sure as i haven't had the chance to check yet.
Kirk
If that's the case then you wont need the controller no more as the Syvecs can control that and you will be able to use the larger cams.
johnny g
I've got the BC 272 duration, 9.52mm lift cams in mine. I'd get a nice set of high lift in there with some upgraded valve springs and have Ryan map it. FYI, with my cams I got 670bhp at 1.25bar so they do work! But do you not need uprated valve springs when you go over 264.
Hellstrom
Its the lift thats says if you need to upgrade springs. But yeah you should upgrade imo when going towards bc 272 cams atleast --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=57.729048,11.786069
jjs_82
Would 264s be ok for about 600bhp
jjs_82
I emailed BC about cams and this was the reply i got [unfortunately we do not have the VVTI cams available for the 98 as our fit the IS300 which is the later model.]
johnny g
Yup, mine are the 2JZ-GE cams, from the IS300. I believe it was BC0312 part number.
