Dim Sum
Does it matter what brand silicone hoses you use? I know SAMCO, would be ideal, but does it really matter on the brand? I'm thinking of buying some 5mm from ebay can't be all bad?

Chris Wilson
Silicone hose without a fabric mesh moulded in it is a terrible choice for vac / pressure hoses, which I can only assume a 5mm hose will be used for? You should use a rubber hose, like the stock ones. Gates and Wurth sell it. Plain small bore silicone that has to be held on with tie wraps is asking for unreliabilty. It slips off, splits and the cheap stuff deteriorates rapidly. You'll never see it on a "proper" race car or a production car.

Got a link to buy some, preferred if it could be red.
rob wild
Chris and the other chaps are bang on! Trust me you buy cheap you buy twice! I've got a mixture of stock, samco and sfs hoses on the GTR supplied through RB motorsport and its all been very good i.e. they haven't failed at 2bar whilst tuning, however non of them where cheap, cheap! Chris Wilson
All the quality rubber type hoses that I have ever come across, which is all I would even contemplate in small bore sizes, have been black. Choosing a hose for its colour, rather than its efficacy, seems a bit daft to me.

Dnk
I've never used the vaccum pipes that Merlin M/S, Viper Performance or SFS Performance advertise but they are advertising them as vaccum hose so you'd like to think they are fit for purpose.
