Terminator
Bar Hill Tesco A14 Cambridgeshire has 99 on most, if not all pumps, 95.9 or 90.9 with my shopping voucher. Thats £7.00 a tank cheaper than Optimax round here. Next week 5th gear has an item on petrol, which is the best? branded or supermarket? Should be interesting. Steve W
Well, not sure who this Greenenergy.com are ?? BUT, they've NOT got the list right... i went into Romford Gallows Corner today.... NOPE, NO 99RON ! They have 'ordinary' Unleaded(95) and Diesel ONLY. Their LRP pumps are marked as "Out of Use", but the girlie had no idea what 99Ron was or if/when they would get any (doesn't nec' mean they WON'T get it tomorrow even - what does a GIRLIE know - but......) AND, if they haven't got the LIST right............ Haven't been in Chelmsford, will try tomorrow (or may PHONE them in mo') FatS.

JohnA
Just a quick note that I'm not affiliated with this "greengrocery" site in any way, shape or form guys. It also wrongly claims that a Tesco closer to me has 99RON. It could be that these are the shops where it WILL be rolled out eventually. Send hate emails to them if you feel octanically-deprived, lol...
Guest Terry S
OK guys, hand on heart, is it any better than Optimax, or just cheaper. I havent tried it yet as the Watford stores pumps are usually 10-15 deep in ques and I am impatient.
foodfreak
Hi Terry, My car certainly feels happeir on the 99 ron. Picks up quicker, btw How did you get on the weekend? give me a ring if you get the chance john
JohnA
I've stopped using Optimax long ago, it would occassionally make KnockLink go mad for no good reason - ie sometimes it would behave like SUL, sometimes like 95RON, other times in-between. At least Tesco specifies this one to be 99RON and 87MON, Shell was originally very iffy about these numbers, and I don't trust them now even if they've changed their line. Mind you, this 'independent' analysis of the Tesco fuel only found 96MON, but at least there are some 'base' figures to cling on.

How did you calibrate you knock link John?
JohnA
I used KnockLink a lot on the Calibra. It was running silly boost at stock CR, so I was checking on knock obsessively On the supra I can't tell because I run even more water and methanol, so my knock threshold is abnormally high. Haven't bothered to hook KnockLink on it yet, not sure how (or IF) it would work with the straight six block. If it pulls timing I can tell immediately on the accelerometer datalog. The stock raw knock signal can also be of some use for low/midrange, once you've deducted the 'resident' noise. Not worth the effort IMO. The stock ECU must have a very good algorithm, because it detects knock at a very early stage, even before the detcans blink (yet another over-rated tool) edit: I did the 'calibration' by experimenting with different locations for the Bosch sensor and different washer materials and tightening pressures. Plus the sensitivity screw of course, in my case that was always at max setting. Different washers (copper, aluminium, steel) and different torque values make the sensor couple differently and change it's behaviour. I also found in that block that the best location was on the cyl head, not the middle of the block as the stock sensor used to be. Funny eh? Steve W
YES, at Chelmsford (Princes Road roundabout). 91.5p/Litre AND 5p/Litre off if shop there (which we had) so 86.5p/Litre. on the OTHER hand, the peeps IN the station new NOTHING about the new 99RON, only that it was Super Unleaded, no leaflets, no info.... AND, Tesco Customer Services STILL haven't replied to my EM from 6 days ago asking exactly WHERE it was being sold, and WHO made it/ WHERE did it come from ? ! ? ! But, as it's cheaper than any other NORMAL Unleaded round here, i'll use it in me N/A. [i'd STILL like to know though......... ]
toyotasuprauk
It says here http://www.greenergy.com/products/99_octane.html that greenergy make it. Does it make any difference in the NA steve or others?
China Man
GOODMAYES 822 High Road Essex RM6 4HY I was shopping at tesco there today and filled up with half tank ron99, only 93p and I spend lots of money at shopping so I get a futher 5p off per L!!! supRo
I used 99 ron from Tesco Stevenage yesterday. The supra does feel more responsive and smoother! And about same price as normal unleaded from the other retailers! I use to only use Optimax before but this does deteriorate. Then I ustarted using BP ultimate as well. I just wish my Local (Dunstable) tesco had 99 ron too I'll keep you updated on how the car performs. Ro
