Lude
sounded like i had something stuck to my tyre, then listend further, sounded like a springy squeeky noise, sound changes the faster slower i go, so wheel or brake related. its not a grinding noise you get with low pads. and the sound doesn alter if you brake or not. jacked the car up & spun the wheel, coundt hear the sound then. searched, sounds like wheel bearing on its way, ive booked it into the garage for next week, and wont be driving it. has anyone used these bearings off ebay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-JZA80-3-0i-Turbo-NA-Rear-Wheel-Bearing-/350468097310?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item519986c51e

Lude
£70 for the bearing is ok, is changing a bearing on a supra any more complex to changing on any other car? and PS no my wallet isnt ready for a pounding lol
Scott
Changing the rear bearing is a royal pita. I would be ready for a shock in labour costs if I was you bud. Also be ready to replace osme other bits and bobs that may need cut off.
Lude
ok thanks for the warning, im taking it to my usual garage who i trust, and are pritty good. will i need to have my Geo re-done again after it? hoping it wont be the wheel bearing gone now :/
Scott
The geo really depends on how easily they get the hub apart. When did you have it done? If it was a while ago I would get it done again anyway as it never hurts. If it was done recently then it's a judgement call. The garage will probably advise you given what they have done. Be sure to ask them though in case they don't think to mention any adjusters they have touched.
Lude
ok. i had the Geo done last year, then a few months after i initially had it done, the 1 side camber went inwards. i returned the car to the garage, they adjusted it again and said it shoudnt have cambered in, unless the bearing has gone. this was a few months ago itself now, the camber looks fine, but ive got this noise. fingers crosed they will leave the camber adjusters alone & get the bearing out easily enough. will report back next week to adivse how skint i am lol meanwhile if anyone has any views on my noise and thinks could be something other than bearing please cheer me up
Dnk
If they remove the hub from the lower suspension arms no 1 and 2 at the ball joints then they shouldnt need to touch the adjusters, the upper arm has no adjustment so thats not a problem along with the strut rod. With regard to the noise it could be a cv joint on the drive shaft
Lude
ok thanks DNK. hope the wheel doesnt fall off or anything stupid when i drive it to the garage :S
Dnk
If you've spun the wheel and couldnt here any nasty noises and there was no play when wobbling the wheel then it wont (shouldnt ) fall off Going back to the noise it could be handbrake related. I assume your on about the rear as the ebay link you posted was for a rear wheel bearing ? Lude
yes mate its the rear, thanks for the tips. yea who knows could be something easy/little, think its going to be the bearing though, as handling seems to be a little juddery/crabbing slightly. only drove it 20mph 2 miles today booked in for tuesday so see what the garage advise next week
Dnk
If its affecting how the car drives then you should be able to feel play in the bearing by wobbling the wheel. A silly one but check your wheel nuts are tight, i had someone think their wheel bearing was shot a little while ago, it was 4 loose wheel nuts with one stud sheared off
Lude
lol that was the 1st thing i checked mate il let you know what the garage says about it next week, thanks for reading, will post up for future info mid week...
Lude
spoke to garage today, it is the bearing. they said that i may have damaged the hub also tho? they have priced parts £150 for the bearing & hub (seemed like a kit) but if the hub is ok they will just do the bearing. will this be easier for them to do now? just trying to estimate the labour bill.... Scott
If the hub and bearing is already assembled then it will make the job a fair bit easier. It's not difficult to get the bearing out and in, it's just a bit of a pain and needs a big press etc. Fresh hub and bearing will make the job a lot easier. Good price on it too. drift_bear
This is what happened to me down at pod this year! My wheel was making the same noise and when lee jacked it up, it had so much play was crazy!! To get my rear bearing done was £220 (I even supplied the bearing)
gavin.starr
I did it all myself, jacked the car up and removed the hubs some of the ball joints were a pain but nothing major. I bought the same bearings that you have listed. And only got charged £30 to do the pressing out and in. Saved my self a fortune in labour charges. Lude
bump, just had the car back tonight the kit they ordered which consisted of hub & bearing for £150 was the wrong one. i had the bearing for £65 + VAT. they charged me £55 + VAT for labour. they said the hub had some markings on it, but its fine. happy with this
Scott
That's fantastic mate, much cheaper than what I would have expected. Bet you're a happy camper
Guest stevie.84
You prof'd there as mine just failed MOT on rear wheeling bearing, I didn't have time to wait for eBay items as I needed car! £287 all in including labour, not including MOT charge! Really gutted as it's delayed my respray.
