CJ
I still bank with Santander in the UK and have never had any issues - until now. I tried to access my account yesterday via the online banking service and kept getting an error message saying that there were no accounts associated with the details I was inputting. As I had used the service the day before, I assumed this was just a technical hitch and went back to try today only to have the same problem and so I called customer service and after giving them my details, they say they cannot find any record of my account . They asked if I had recently closed my account etc and are now going to ring me back. To be honest, I am a little concerned as whilst there was not a huge amount of money in the account (well, over 500.00 but not huge), I would hate to think I am the victim of some type of scam. The only online (or other) purchase I have made recently is flight tickets from a reputable company (albeit Greek) but surely someone would not have had enough info off that to be able to close (and fleece) my account? Scott
Sounds like a mixup rather than fraud bud. If its fraud its an inside job. Fingers crossed they get back to you
stevie_b
I would guess someone has fat-fingered something at the bank. It takes time (and signatures on pieces of paper) to close a bank account, so I don't think scammers would be able to do it over the internet without using some very advanced hacking techniques. If it is possible to do this over the internet, I don't think your account balance was big-time enough for them to bother (no offence, they wouldn't bother with mine either!) I would be going into a branch of Santander (do they have much of a presence in Greece?) and speaking to someone face to face. There *must* be transaction records that provide evidence of the account having existed. Once you've proven it existed, you can then ask them, "Can you show me a copy of the completed and signed form giving my authorisation to close the account?" No presence at all out here unfortunately but I am lucky as I have family (see previous post) who work at Santander and they are on the case too. CJ
Just heard from the Ex and apparently some cretin at probate inadvertently deleted my account and they will now have it reinstated within 48 hours. She suggested screaming blue murder and claiming compensation!
Scott
Told you it was an inside job Did you not say you had 50k in there?
Charlotte
Did you not say you had 50k in there? I think that's what I heard. Hope you get it sorted promptly - all rather annoying and time consuming having to deal with banks these days.
ronttuk
Im Rons wife and i work in a bank, this isnt good enough they should be able to reinstate it straight away you also want to make a complaint for compensation due to stress loss of interest and phone calls, if they dont cough up tell them you will write to the ombudsmen and if they investigate the case it will cost the bank at least £350 per case!! Dont know if this will help but dont let the buggers get away with it.
stevie_b
As Ron's wife said, 48 hours is a large delay when so much of modern life revolves around one's current account.

TBH, with everything else going on at the moment, the last thing I need is more hassles like this - methinks the buggers should pay!

Plus, they have not rang me back yet. I got this info via my ex and a text to me here in Greece.
