Tee from China
Just posting this on behalf of a mate whos visiting Hong Kong at the end of the month. Just wondering whos been before? are there any car related places/sites worth visiting? Any other place yous guys would recommend going to see? Try asking Nic as he lives there. Have been to HK 3 times myself - once to HK island and twice to Kowloon so which part of HK is your friend going to?

Septic
IIRC, HK officials are STRICTLY against modifications on cars there so you won't see anything other than OEM goodness.

Ain't every government against modding? The car modding scene in HK is insane if you know the right people!

loks
Cheers for the replies, Its Tai Po hes going to. Only just noticed this thread I actually live in Taipo and have done for the last 22 years. Let me know what your mate is looking for? Yes, it is illegal to modify your engine in any way here... however if you don't get caught ... it basically stems from illegal street racing that used to go on here a lot when I first arrived and usually coincided with the Macau GP weekend build up. The local drivers didn't have the track options in China & Thailand that they have nowadays. It was always a surprise heading back from Wanchai in taxi in the early hours of the morning (3-5am) and spot a crowd of people standing on a walkway over the highway in Kowloon and next the inevitable.... one or a bunch of cars would come absolutely flying by on full tilt... anything from Honda civics (the weapons of choice in those days) to Ferraris... However the one that did make me laugh was when I lived in Taipo Centre (a concrete jungle in centre of town), you could be waken to squealing tyres and you could watch this couple of 5ton deliver trucks having a burn around the circuit around the 4 centre towers blocks.... never spotted the law at the time. It does still go on as I read about it the news these days... as I am a tad older now and usually getting in from the bars when I was usually thinking of going out to the bars in those days
Septic
Man HK sounds amazing. You're a lucky sod. So can you speak Mandarin fluently?
