Finally found a car for Jen, hopefully she will keep this one for a bit

I tried to get her to have a look at the old shape Type R when we bought the Corolla T-Sport and the Mini before that, but it was pushing our budget and she felt it was a bit boy racerary

Anyway I mentioned the new shape a few weeks ago and she said no without a glance, we were intending to have a look at a 2008 TOYOTA Auris 2.2 D-4D SR180, but after some research found they are not the most reliable Toyota's ever

So I took Jen to the Honda Garage which took some convincing and got her to have a look in a couple of different model Civic's and she decided she liked the £14,995 Red Type R they had, so I have a challenge on my hands to try and find one in budget

Next thing I know I am driving to Bournmouth to look at a 57 plate one with 42k miles, in Red of course;)

Well after about 2 1/2 hours of uming and arring and a 30 minute test drive we put a deposit down, so I am hoping this will mean I can have a rest from searching for cars based on nice seats and colour:nyah:

Anyway the new car to the family, to be picked up next weekend with a new Mot, serviced and 6 months Tax included

I think we got a good deal as they had just dropped the price by nearly £1k, the price on the forecourt was still full price

Hope you guys like it, I know it's not a Supra, I did try and convince her to get one and I know they are not as mad as the previous model, but it's for the wife to get to work and suites her needs..............I hope:looney:

Been there, done that!

Well done - now you can get back to concentrating on the supra!

It's been a total pain in the arse, finding a car for her this time, she kept saying she wanted something cheap to run, but then wanted something that looked a bit sporty/quirky and had decent seats and a nice interior

I kept trying to get her to realise that economy and what she wanted don't go together, so she had to decide on one or the other, she actually wanted a Red Corsa VXR that was close to us recently, but we could not come to an agreement with the trader.

That seems to have been a blessing now, as I would always take a Civic Type R over the Corsa VXR, even if the Civic Typre R is a bit fat now

As for the Supra, it's done for now, I need to get a daily runner (Jen's just spent the money I had for that:rolleyes:), then hopefully Spring ish next year I can do a TT Bpu transplant or possibly Na-T

Gorgeous car!! I had a look at them when I was looking for a daily driver the other month, awesome looking seats :D

The interior is actually one of the best I have seen in a factory car, very well laid out and very spacious

Seems like you got a very good deal,I can't believe there less than 8k now!

Under £8k....are they that cheap now?! Cracking buy that if you got them down even further on the asking price.

Well the under £8k price was an online offer he had done, on the forecourt it was £8.700, there is a bit of a story behind it though

It's only had one owner from new and he couldn't keep up the payments anymore due to losing his job, he had offered it to the garage for a cash sum, but the garage didn't buy it as he wanted to much, it ended up being repossessed and the garage bought it at much cheaper price from the repossession company, allowing him to sell it at a decent price and move it quickly. Proberbly wanted to move it on quickly before the guy who had it repossessed sees it and comes in moaning

Book price is around £9.5k for it and it has 42,347 miles, so a bit below average and Full Honda Service from the main dealer in Bournmouth

As for price, he wouldn't budge and only offered us a slightly lower than book P/X on the Corolla, we did get 6 months Tax, Service by Honda, and a new 13 month MOT.

All in all it was a good deal as far as I am concerned, we had looked at another 08 Plate with almost exactly the same mileage with the same GT pack and it was up for £12,500 and someone was there at the time trying to sort out the finance on it, it was in the same sort of condition, maybe a touch worse for stonechips. I think sensibly they seem to be around £9k to £10k and we just got lucky

Great cars these. The interiors are "interesting"...!!

H.

I think interesting is proberbly a good word for the interior, but once your sat in the drivers seat you don't notice the red at all and everything in the cockpit is around the driver and with the GT pack it's well equiped, if not over equiped.......REFRIGERATED GLOVE BOX ANYONE:blink:

the type r isnt exactly cheap to run! lol i have a civic for sale, would have saved u some £'s. check my previous threads.

To be honest running costs are not a major issue, she only does 100 miles a week for work anyway

I had seen the one you are selling, but this was for Jen, so wrong colour and wrong interior, it's a women buying the car thing:rolleyes:

:eyebrows:

Refrigerated glovebox? :D Nice... I have the same on my Q7 but to be honest its just a box with a hole/opening to the A/C system. So in theory if the heater is on you will get yourself an oven :p

Yeah your right, it's a vent from the Air Con and heating system that can be turned on and off, so Cold cans in the summer and fresh Popcorn in the winter:Popcorn:

Wonder if I can get a big Pizza in there or a bargain bucket

Nice car, I have had one for a year and can honestly say it has been great. At this minute in time I can't justify having a hugely expensive car to run so I think this ticks all the boxes for me, it's practical, looks great inside and out, sounds good, and is fairly nippy and not too thirsty. I average about 28mpg but that is with alot of vtec action. They do get some bad press largely thanks to JC which I think is hugely unjustified. Anyway here's mine :)

Always have a soft spot for the latest TypeR. Really looks special inside and out! I like how the brake discs looks bigger because of the housing they are in :p

Curious though, looks like the TypeR has normal halogen headlights but how come almost all of TypeRs I see at night emits an almost white-ish light? Are they all bulb jobs?

The car doesn't come with HID's as standard unfortunately. A lot of people do choose to uprate the bulbs as I have done, or fit aftermarket HID's.

You're right about the discs though, just a shame they're a bit pants as standard. Brembo discs, cosworth pads, Do-Luck braided brake lines and motul brake fluid soon sorted mine out though ;)

Nice to hear that someone else is running one and finds it reliable, I did do some research and didn't find any problems, but good to hear from someone using one

I did see the JC comments, but the only real conplaint that seems to come up regularly is the ride being harsh, but I am sure we will be able to live with that if that's the only problem

But it's slower than the older model :p

Jen has made a great choice! My uncle has a white 30th anniversary model & it is lovely! The interior is the best bit about the whole car, looks and feels so high tech! When I jumped out of his car & back into my Supra it really made the the Supra feel dated inside (even though I don't think it is that dated). Reliability wise you can't go wrong with them! Mine has been superb, even though I should have replaced the clutch 2 months ago it is working beautifully. Infact I am heading out to France again in a couple of weekends in it!

Tell her me & the wife (Nushy) said hi & she made a fab choice! :)

Yeah, I have to admit the ride is very hard but I don't mind it. A popular upgrade is the Eibach progressive lowering springs, apparently they make it a less harsh ride. They are next on my list of mods along with a proper geometry setup :)

:p I know for a fact it's not ;)

:p

Though driving my Uncles FN2 didn't seem to hang around, not sure if the LSD is helping out. I have told him to let me know when his free so then we can have a few runs & see how they compare against each other. I am planning on doing a few track days in the CTR, seems to be best for that :D
