Clunking noise in rear when changing gears. What can it be ?

Hi chaps,

Ever since i bought my Supra i have this issue. I finally decided to address it :)

When going through the gears, especially the first 3 ones, a clunking noise occurs in the rear of the car, not very very loud but definitely noticeable. I would say it's in the differential area. No other symptoms.. leaks etc

Any hunches on what it could be ? Car is a 6spd NA.

Cheers

Alex

This happens on mine, mainly when stationary and going from reverse into 1st.

My gearbox mount is more than likely worn (makes a creaking sound when the gearstick moves a bit when going over bumps), so that may have something to do with it, probably not though.

Another thing I read about before was the clutch not releasing fully so it struggles to get into gear.

I'm not planning on worrying about it anytime soon (might try and adjust the clutch pedal so the bite point isn't so low though) :)

Seems to be quite common amongst 6spd Supras i see. Relieved to see it isn't something serious. Think i'll leave the problem aside until i swap the engine next year.
