black_widow87
Right guy im having a boost issue which is frustrating the hell out of me! Basically my car will boost to 1.5bar in 1st and 2nd but soon as i put into 3rd the boost hits approx 1.2 and starts to hesitate, almost like a slight fluttering noise. Only thing i can think of causing this is the wastegate. Im running a screamer pipe off the wastegate which has a slightly squashed end, is this causing too much pressure in the wastegate or would that not affect it??? Thanks in advance guys
richarde7927
At 1.5 bar mate there would be next to nothing coming out of the pipe and if the pipe being crushed was coursing a problem the boost would be high as the boost would not be able to get out , i would go for a boost leak somewhere. i would get the system smoke tested . after that you said you had clutch slip so i would say as the clutch is slipping there is not enough load from the engine to get the boost you are trying to get. black_widow87
But surely the engine would still make the boost and just cause the clutch to slip? iv only noticed it today hit 1.5 in 3rd piece of cake tge other day. How expensive is a smoke test?
richarde7927
Im sure i can get that sorted for you for a good price . The bloke in the next unit to me has all the kit to do it . the reason when the clutch slides you do not make the boost is because the engine is no longer pulling the weight of the car there for the engine is not under the same load , Then not making the same boost . i would start with boost leak first and go from there. black_widow87
Well it turns out its not the clutch caising this boost problem, still seems to be hesitant in 3rd gear pulls. Any suggestions guys?
Branners
Im assuming at 1.5bar you have an aftermarket ECU and uprated injectors and fuel pump(s)? When it was on the dyno for mapping what did they see? And when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

When it was on the dyno for mapping what did they see? And when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Yes running aftermarket ecu and 550cc injectors. It was road mapped and was hitting 1.5bar consistently till the clutch started to slip in 5th gear so had to abort. To be honest the fuel filter has not been changed for a while, could that affect boost?
Branners
Fuel filter could stop fuel flow to the engine causing it to run slightly lean which stops it pushing enough power through to make the boost. Certainly worth checking.
Ian C
My money is on the spark blowing out under those boost levels, you're just starting to get a bit of misfire Check coil pack connectors, spark plug age and gap, and maybe even the coil packs themselves. Scott
My first thought was also a misfire. They get a bit pesky at those boost levels.
richarde7927
Things like this are always had to pin point when talking on a forum as there could be lots of reasons why you have this problem jake ,Pop it down to me mate and we will go through the car and if needed pop it on the dyno and check the afr and get the det cans on the engine , It could just be the 255 fuel pump just cannot supply the engine with enough fuel . Dnk
Is it running short of fuel as its only got 550 injectors in it ?
black_widow87
Fuelling was spot on during the mapping with a good safety margin, full WOT reading 12.0-11.7. If it was a fuelling problem and running lean wouldnt the motor had been in serious trouble by now? Would it be worth turning the boost down to say 1.3bar to see If it makes a difference?
