michael
It seems that Billing are still planning a Japanese car show for the same weekend as JAE. It promises to be smaller as most people will be heading to the new venue, free of chavs and doesn't have a pathetic 'flame-out' competition *rolls 'eyes* From what I can find out they are calling it the 'Japanese Auto Show' and it's being organised by a guy called Harry Tune from 'American Auto Club International'. Billing show it on their event list for 23rd - 24th July. http://www.aacint.com I'm toying with the idea of going to this instead, I'm not keen on the showground and don't like the camping arrangements there, it alienates old friends and club members who have moved on to other things. Pete
But there's no info on the website that I could see? It's a bit daft doing it the same weekend. Can't imagine it being much cop..stick with the official club stand at JAE.
Bobbeh
I'll give Peterborough a looksee this year. As the 'event' has moved there I suspect 99 of the cars/people will also be there. Kinda dumb to have multiple jap car meets on the same weekend.

Yeah, sadly JAE is a victim of it's own success, I've been for the last 4 years or so and it's got bigger and more chaved up each time - it's a nice show and a good place to see everything but the idiots do my head in. The addition of the silly flame competition etc is possibly the final nail for me. I've slept in the car, done the tent thing and the hotel a couple of times now, maybe I just need a year off so it seems new
michael
But there's no info on the website that I could see? I didn't see anything on there either but it's listed on the Billing site: http://www.billingaquadrome.com/events.php?row=8 It's a bit daft doing it the same weekend. Can't imagine it being much cop..stick with the official club stand at JAE. Daft but I guess a fair few people will have taken very little notice of the location change and end up there by default It's going to be quiet for sure but that's probably more my thing, I'm a miserable antisocial sod. Digger
I think what happened is that the new organisers of JAE (who took-over the show last year) had certain "requirements" this year from the people who own the JAE venue and they wouldn't play ball ... so the organisers took JAE somewhere else. Billing got arsey about it and said "fine, we'll put on our own show then" ... called it a similar name and organised it on the same date - in an attempt to "get back" at the JAE organisers changing venues. That's my understanding of things anyway.
michael
Indeed, that's the tale I heard too - to be honest I really liked Billing, they just needed to limit the ticket sales a little, get a few more traders and keep the security at the level it was in the last few years. I guess it's got bigger and the organisers now see it as a way to raise some cash rather than being a show for enthusiasts that just about pays for itself. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were chipping in for the fireworks! I'm still torn between a quiet Billing weekend and a stressed time getting wound up by chavs but seeing more interesting cars....
Digger
I know for a fact the organisers aren't in it for the cash. They are both bigtime Jap Car enthusiasts and took over the show because they felt they could improve it. They've also been heavily involved with other shows .. including TOTB4 and GT Battle. They've gone to huge lengths to get as many different clubs, etc at this show as possible - to try and get as wide a spread of cars / marques as possible. They certainly aren't in it for the quick buck. Daz
michael
"The Organisation" I presume? I guess people wanted different things and the event needed a better venue, aspects of Billing like access were a problem and so on.... I don't blame them for trying something new... maybe I need to be more open to change instead of judging in advance The flameoff thing still disappoints me though. "The Organisation" ... correct indeed. I would probably still have been at Billing had they not been so awkward during early discussion about it ... but they got arsey and subsequently lost the event. I'm sure the new venue will work well. Didn't know about the flame-off ... but it'll keep the kids happy won't it Daz
Gaz Walker
JAE looks very promising this year, I doubt Billing will pull something out even a percent as good as JAE. The Flame Out thing, well, its keeps the chav's in one place doesn't it. Catering for all needs and all that. Gaz.

Branners
Im certainly waiting to see how JAE works out this year, its a major change being away from Billing and we know Billing had its problems but we could work around those. Hopefully JAE will live up to the hype and be as good as we want it to be otherwise Billing might be a lot busier next year. JB

Pete
I had a weird dream last night that I drove to JAE, only I was late and missed the meet up and had to drive on my own. I was on auto pilot and went to Billing instead, but they'd done it all up to look like I was going into JAE. There were loads of people queing to get in to what they thought was JAE and they were charging a tenner a head. A load of rednecks were just taking money off people, but there was naff all to see once you got there. That's when I noticed the American car club signs everywhere which had been badly covered up with JAE stuck on them! I tried to leave and get a refund so I could find my way to the real JAE. (especially for my 18month old Nephew - a tenner for a kid - I mean ). Someone had blocked the Supra in though so I couldn't go as they wanted to keep the few 'show' cars that had turned up. Weird. ewizzy
Would be nice! But we'd have to sell £15k to break even at JAE though I'll buy £15K of you, do I get a club discount though? I reckon -15% so, I'll give you £13.5k and you give me £15k in return
Pete
lmao... Thats what I thought it would probably be like! Gaz. John_M
Billing has done this before with the "Land Rover Owners" Show. The magazine built up it's show at Billing until it outgrew the site and when they moved on to another location Billing hosted a show at the same weekend.
