marc_p
Hi Guy's, I'm in need of some advice, I'm wanting a new daily soon (Currently in an N/A Auto Supra) and have been considering the following(would be looking at 03-05 models): -Porsche Boxster S -BMW M3(E46 obv) -BMW Z4 Coupe Now the car would mainly be used for twisty country lane roads(and I do like to open it up a fair bit), but I also want something that is still as comfy as the Supra for long journeys and it has to have a 'fun factor', in regard to MPG, it's not a major issue, but ideally I don't want anything that is worse than the Supra's MPG. Straight line speed is not an issue as I have the TT Supe to satisfy that craving, but I want something that is a bit newer and something that really takes back roads into it's stride for a daily. Any advice really would be appreciated. Cheers Marc
hodge
M3 for me without question.
Josh
Boxster S for me. It may be a "poor man's Porsche" but as a daily and for twisty roads, that would be my choice of the three.
j_jza80
Newish mk5/6 Golf GTi or R32? I would suggest the Audi S4 or RS4, but fuel economy will be worse than the Supra.
Abz
What happen to the Type R idea dude? I was leaving you TT's in the twisties! Total different story on the straight
l33wgn
I had a z4 and it was a brilliant car but I struggled with it as a daily as it only had the two seats, I was averaging 35 mpg though and when pushed it was good fun in the corners, probs alot cheaper to run / repair than either of the other two and all. For me though as a fun daily I'd look at evo's scoobys or for a bit more comfort my brother has a merc clk 320 coup that's a lovely motor ( gotta be newer than 04 though ) or just go crazy and buy an alfa berea
marc_p
Cheers for the inputs guy's, I really need to start test driving the cars I think(already driven the M3 so know what there like). Newish mk5/6 Golf GTi or R32? I would suggest the Audi S4 or RS4, but fuel economy will be worse than the Supra. TBH, I think I want RWD, I feel more at home in them. What happen to the Type R idea dude? I was leaving you TT's in the twisties! Total different story on the straight I do love Type R's, but I've had 3 civics over the past 4 years and think I need a change, plus I want to try something a bit more 'plush' always had the more hardcore jap cars and think I need to at least 'try' refinement I had a z4 and it was a brilliant car but I struggled with it as a daily as it only had the two seats, I was averaging 35 mpg though and when pushed it was good fun in the corners, probs alot cheaper to run / repair than either of the other two and all. For me though as a fun daily I'd look at evo's scoobys or for a bit more comfort my brother has a merc clk 320 coup that's a lovely motor ( gotta be newer than 04 though ) or just go crazy and buy an alfa berea Cheers, nice to hear views from people who have lived with them, I have read quite a few good reviews on the Z4 and boxster, that's why they are on there. Don't want an Imprezza or Evo, as again, it's going back to the more hardcore jap thing.

l33wgn
If your after plush I'd defiantly look at a 320 coupe my brothers is awesome in truth I prefer it to the z4 but don't tell him that
l33wgn
Mines a pint. Lol if your putting z4's and boxters on the list might as well have an alfa
kill1308
Just be aware of the high running/maintenance costs of an E46 M3 if you do go down that route. A 330CD with a remap would be a better choice in my opinion
Abz
Ah I understand, I was going to recommend a S2000 but again it is going down the Jap route. As mentioned above I'd most likely go for a 330d, plenty of good usage power, handling is pretty good. Fantastic on fuel & if you get a nice fully loaded model (dark blue with cream interiors), very nice place to be sitting in as a daily. On a side note I looked at 330ci's recently & they dropped sooo much in price!!!
marc_p
On a side note I looked at 330ci's recently & they dropped sooo much in price!!! Because you looked at them? I like the 330d coupe's but can't see me getting them to come into there own on the backroads, the cars are much more set up for cruising. I'm not going to lie, the Boxster S really does come up top in all the reviews and seems to be taking my fancy the most at the moment. Really need to take one out for a test drive. Gaz6002
The Boxster is the best driver's car suggested in this thread by a country mile. M3 next.

I tried looking at some Supra's really hard but the prices only dropped a tad I understand where you are coming from and as Gaz said out of the list the BoxsterS will be the best bet. I drove a BoxsterS before getting my TT and 2 weeks ago drove another Boxter (2.7) while waiting for a car my brother in law brought. Drive wise they are fantastic, balance & delivery of power from an NA engine is great, though if you are looking for refinement then I am not so sure this is the car. I found the interior a little drab, dials look great but I found the centre console & other bits a little basic. Just my opinion.
k9l3
330d 5.9 secs with a remap and 40mpg
jonathanc
Family? I'm 23:d Besides, don't think that'll really be a great b-road car Ahhh... in that case maybe Boxster S would be my choice from your list. Has to be tin top tho! For that budget there are plenty of other choices out there...

Not bothered about it being basic, just want something that is comfy and rattle free on long runs and very fun on b-roads(it would be a Boxster S I'd be looking at). Ahhh... in that case maybe Boxster S would be my choice from your list. Has to be tin top tho! For that budget there are plenty of other choices out there... Tintop? do you mean the Cayman or put a hardtop on the Boxster(which is probably what I would do)? Vx220? I think he wanted 'some' refinement! I have been looking at Elise's, but would need to test drive one as not sure I could live with one on a day to day basis.

jonathanc
Whoops, yeah I meant hard top on Boxster S. I don't really like the rag top Boxsters not sure why.... Cayman S is awesome but really expensive lol. Test drove one but prefer the TTRS
