Plugging Brake Hoses

Recommended Posts

I am about to refurb Front and Rear calipers, but cannot find anything in the UK to plug the brake hoses while the calipers are removed.

I have braided steel lines, so even if I was happy to clamp the hose it's not an option.

Is there anything that isn't a bodge I can use to seal up the caliper mounting point on the hose?

I'd be interested in the answer too for the future although at this time I'm going to flush the fluid anyway when I change calipers so it's not a problem now (always a good idea if you've not done it before - it's possible it could be over 10 years old!)

You could even sacrifice some pennies and use them as the thin plate :)

I use mole grips 2p coins and rubber sheet, and old bike inner tube will do. Just be careful to adjust the grips to close just short of the thickness of the banjo fitting and the two coins. I left my lines clamped this way for two weeks, not a drop leaked out.

Good one - thanks guys. The reason i'm being so tight about it is that it's pretty much brand new 5.1 fluid in there, so no point wasting it! :D

Two bits of thinnish ply works as well. It'll eventually soak through but will only weep after a long time. Why not just let them drip into bowls and do a fluid refresh at the same time :)
Mainly because i've just renewed the fluid, but seeing as i'm about to get a load of 5.1 for my accord I may just do the Supe too.

At least I have some options now though!! :)
