Cheapish Car Polishing Machine Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am planning to be at the in laws this weekend and whilist it is a long weekend & I have a few odd jobs lined up for me I am tempted to wash & clean all 3 cars which they have in the household. One of them being a Toyota Lucidia which they are looking to sell.

I am not looking for amazing results, this is what the pro's are there for, but looking for a machine which can clean up the paint and clear up swirl marks etc to give it a nice clean fresh look. I won't be using it much so I don't want to invest in something really expensive. If I find I have the time and skills then possibily I'll look at a more expensive unit (I am a bit OCD so could possibly end up doing that).

Anyone recommend anything? I have looked on eBay and loads around the £50-80 mark, avoid them?

Id look at the Kestral Das6 (or Pro version) around £120 which is half the Meguiars G220 price and does everything the Megs' does. Still quite expensive though I guess.. but a good starter pack and is expandable with various pads etc.

Thanks dude

Dodo juice buff daddy, can pick them up for about £100 on eBay

I can't access eBay from work so I'll check this out when I am home Jake.

The local polish guys around the corner ;)

They only wax the car and don't machine polish ;)

look into getting a kit of some sort , as you are going to need pads of various grades EG cutting polishing and finishing , plus compounds to go with them , it wont be of much use say if you have a machine and one pads and a bit of g3

Thanks Peter, I was hoping you replied. Looking into it, looks like I'd need some different pads to get a decent finish.

buy the Kestral as said from http://www.polished-bliss.co.uk

Remember as Peter said to get all pads compounds and polishes

Great machine the Das6

Cheers Scotty, looks like this is the machine I need to be getting, but with some pads the cost is edging near £200.

You can borrow my G220, if you want ;) I've only used it once, and have a variety of pads & unctions for detailing.

Thanks for the offer Andrew, but now you in Sarfend it is in the opposite direction of where I am heading! Plus you won't get it back if I like it! :p

i got this one, the mutts nutts, very powerfull motor esp at slower speeds for waxes, the 220 sometimes struggles here, these guys are great to deal with too, loads of advice esp on pads and waxes etc

just try and find out what paint you have on your car (ie original or sprayed as it does make a difference in the pads and compounds you buy for either hard or soft paint)

I still work in the City, you dunce :p You could meet me somewhere to pick it up.

I know :p

I have realised now I might have to wait until I can afford a decent one, some really good suggestions on this thread.

That looks really good! Thanks

I am going to have a look through these to decide which one to get, I am going to work on my Dad's car first, then my sisters & brother in laws so I don't mess mine up! :D
