stevie_b
A simple request. For my daily driver (Fiesta), but could apply to any car. Since getting the windscreen changed, I've been having interior mirror problems. The ball joint on it has always been very stiff: I had to press the square mating surface onto the windscreen whenever I wanted to change the angle of the mirror. If I didn't do this, I'd just pull the mirror off the windscreen altogether. I've used more sticky pads than I can remember trying to get a decent bond onto the windscreen. Each time I've been sat in the car, pressing the mirror in place for 5 minutes or more with considerable force. I've tried pre-warming the mating surface of the mirror before fixing in place. I've tried cleaning the mating surface with alcohol solution to ensure it's not greasy. None of these things have worked. I've tried 2 or 3 that Halfords had available: their ball joints tend to be too loose, and the mirror didn't retain its angle for more than 2 minutes. I've tried their suction-cup ones too: they're not an option because the Fiesta windscreen has a large area with raised dots that ruin the suction seal (the standard mirror mates to a small non-dotted rectangular area in the middle of the dotted area. I'm reluctant to buy over the internet because my faith in manufacturers' ability to produce useful interior mirrors has been destroyed, therefore I'd want to try before I buy. I just want an dip-able interior mirror that stays in place, and that I can adjust without pulling it clean off from the windscreen. Any thoughts on where to buy one? Josh
So I could have ripped the one out of my Fiesta before scrapping and got some money for it!
stevie_b
If your ball-joint wasn't super-stiff, then yes!

Chris Wilson
The problem isn't finding a good mirror (any OE mirror, rather than a Halford's aftermarket is usually pretty good, it's getting the right stuff to glue it on with. Be aware some OE mirrors come without the bit that clips it to the windscreen, that bit comes with the glass itself, sometimes. What about a Supra mirror, then you can reflect on your other car when driving the Fiesta?
