Geo
So nipped out to see Tony who had broken down, power steering heavy, temp gauge through the roof, time i got there he had found the problem. Now look at the pic? The problem were getting our head round the Main crank pulley where the Huge nuts goes in, is still in tact, along with the Belt, running around whats left, just slack due to well it falling to bits. Check it out -

Geo
yeah but would they not take out the belt, as in belt coming off? the belt was left in tact and around the remaining crank pulley
AlexM
yeah but would they not take out the belt, as in belt coming off? the belt was left in tact and around the remaining crank pulley I had that after the Nurburgring in 2009, didn't even realise until Bignum noticed it sitting on the engine undertray when we were waiting for the ferry home. Check what's in my hand.
sdistc
Dammit, bad luck Tony.. well, good luck that nothing was damaged with the damper going, but bad luck about it going in the first place Now it's an ideal opportunity to do some R&R on the engine
Monkpower
I have similar crank pulley related issues. Mine is so knackered the centre part has slid out so far as to damage the cooling fan! When I checked it was back in position but the fan had several of its blades broken. New crank pulley and fan belt going on fri.

Geo
Tippex test? yeah you mark the crank pulley, and belt then start car, if they dont line up in the same position, then the belt/pulley is slipping, time to change
