The supra doesn't have an oem turbo timer, but they are just a bit pointless unless you are going to be driving hard literally just before you stop. Just drive normally for a min before you park up, does the same as a t.timer.

:( Well ive already brought a turbo timer so i might aswell make use of it. So does anyone know how to fit them?

You know what, I always used to think this and in fact Guigsy and me had a brief chat about this when we met a while ago as he has the same view. Then my missus goes and buys a Celica and the owners hand book covers all models including the turbo models and guess what...Toyota reccomend that you leave the engine running for X amount of minutes following a drive on boost before shutting the engine down.

Yes thats right, drive on boost and stop and you can hear the bearings rattling around. Drive on boost, then drive for a minute normally and then stop = no rattle. As long at you are not driving hard on boost, then stop and turn the engine straight off, you don't need a turbo timer. :)

As said above fits in between the ignition harness which you have to unclip and then attach the TT harness in the middle. Its behind the cover under the steering wheel and you need to put the seat back reclined and lie with your head in the footwell to see it :D

Thanks, I've found and connected the harness just got to wire the rest up :)

And the picture I've posted up is the wrong place.

I ain't done the rest yet, I'm going to hopefully finish it tomorrow Lol. I can't image what I be like when I install the boost controller. But thanks for the help.

Timer issue aside, if you can hear "bearings rattling around" then you have a problem.

:yeahthat:

Although I suspect that it's the charcoal canister making the noise rather than the bearings.

A turbo timer is absolutely useless though. Pointless gimmick that can see you fined. It states in the Supra manual that after hard driving, uphill driving or trailering to make sure the last 30 to 120 seconds of your journey is off boost. If it isn't, allow the car to idle for a minute before switching off. How many people will this really apply to though? They are just covering themselves for the idiots that think cruise control means the car drives itself.

I've had a turbo timer function for 3 years now and not used it once.

Likewise Scott, mine came with one fitted, an HKS, but apart from seeing if it worked and was connected properly, I have never used it. Just found it interesting that Toyota themselves suggest a period of idle. As you say just to cover themselves most likely. But rattling bearings.....thats a very different thing. Maybe his oil goes thin after a blast and the lack of oil pressure is making his bottom end rattle ;) And before I am jumped on, that is said tongue in cheek and I am sure that is not what he is hearing.

I read on here that it was bearings on another post, but it makes far more sense that it is the charcoal canister. I only heard it once when I first got the car a couple of years back and turbos were new and exciting. Boosted up the road just before I parked, since then normal driving and no noise :)

All done now. But so far i understand that its a pointless thing to have but everyone's title to there opinion and i appreciate that and all the information given to me. I kinda wish I asked about turbo timers before i brought one:p

Heres something i found on the internet about fitting the turbo timer including pictures. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/hks_turbo_timer/turbo_timer.htm

Just be careful where you use it. If you leave your car running on a public road you can be done. Also remember to let your insurance know as your premium will go up. Turbo timers are a known security risk and insurance companies don't like them. If your car is stolen then recovered, and they find it, they won't pay out unless you have already told them.
