Stiff short shifter after driving

Hi guys

Took the car for it's 1st good run yesterday. After about 40 mins when I stopped I noticed the shifter became stiff. Not to select gears but when in nutrual when I moved it from side to side it would stay and not return back to centre when I let go.

Now I've came in the garage to strip it down and have a look and it's nice and loose again. I'm guessing the ball is expanding due to heat, or the socket is contracting which is making it a tighter fit.

I've never had a short shift before so I don't know if this is the norm or not. It's a B&M short shifter I have fitted.

Like I said there's no issues with gear selection the shifter is just tight from side to side. Has anyone else experienced this at all.

Thanks

John

If they fitted the thin rubber anti vibration pad they seem to go dry and stiff, leave it out. I have had a few cars where these things fall apart, too, so maybe best to take it right off and have a close look at it. Personally I think the MKIV is nicer with a LONGER gear lever, I did one for someone years ago, and made the gearbox feel a lot nicer, albeit with a longer throw.
