clunky front end

Getting clunking from front end when driving. Sounds almost like something is loose! Have torqued subframe bolts and checked for hub play, bushes etc. but can't find anything.

Bounced about on car with my (fat) mate, still no noise - not even a squeek. Have shook, rattled and rolled to try and find this.

Have ordered poly roll bar bushes anyway. Any other clues boss?

Starting to get on my t*ts now, so any suggestions would be useful.

Someone help beforeI get so P***ed off I go and buy a Fiesta instead!!

:help:

My car started doing this recently after a suspension upgrade. If it's a knocking sound that is mainly present at low speed but hardly at all as you speed up then it's 99% likely to be the anti-roll bar drop links. If you can get the car on a lift you can check these by trying to move the end of the anti-roll bar which should produce the sound that is bothering you.

I've just ordered some new ones from 'cheap toyota parts', £34 each.

Hope this helps, took me a couple of weeks to discover the cause !!

Is that the stabilizer bar link, I need to get some

Just been looking on Supraforms - Elmhurst Toyota , you can get them for $32 approx £18.

I know you've got delivery prices on top but if you need to order a few things it would undoubtebly be cheaper.

It happens all the time....straight, cornering....

It really sounded like roll bar bushes to me.....I'll have to get the missus to drive it while I sit under the bonnet

Just wondered if there was any "common fault" other than loose subframe bolts

Does the noise occur when you are reversing the car in full lock?

Does it occur when you are moving forward with full lock on the steering?

Does it occur when you are braking hard?

Mine does the above, when slowly accelerating away, and when breaking, can feel the clunk throught the break pedal...any ideas mate??

Drop links make a horrible noise when lose.

Note that when you jack the car up and take the weight off the wheel they will seem tight due to the bolt going thru the hole at an angle and jamming. check for a small gap at the bottom of the nut.

Put it on a ramp so that the car still has its weight on the wheels and check.

Check out this link for what I had to do to tighten it.

I changed the drop links on my car but the noise (Clunking noise) still remains....

Notice it when I brake hard.

When I turn in hard

Notice it on Full lock @ slow speeds as well

Any ideas?

That's more like your subframe bolts, rather than the drop link issue.

Managed to do mine with all four wheels on ground. Piece of cake. But I will say that I new what I was looking for!! Do a search, you'll find a pic of which bolts to re torque. Should be done regularly at service intervals according to my local bod at Toyota.

I have a funny clunking from front end aswell. Steering still feels fine, its worst when i drive into my estate few sharp turns & a bit bumpy. Feels like its coming from the drivers front (if you know what i mean) Sometimes there is no noise especially if the road is smooth

Hope i aint broke it :(
