Branners
Hi folks, Im thinking of finding a system that would allow us to send mass txt messages out to phones at an event. So for instance at Suprapod we can send a txt saying that things are stopping for lunch, or that everybody should meet at the cafe. We could also use it to schedule in when people should be doing their head to head runs. Anybody got any ideas on how to do that? I know Twitter is possible, but I really just want a system where we pop your mobile number in a database for that event and then any txt we send goes to your mobile. Any thoughts on how we do that? caseys
I'm sure on an iPhone and possibly some android phones you can set up a 'group' to send a text message to rather than a long list of numbers. Still a bit of a PITA though. There are some PC based programs, but again, lugging a laptop kind of defeats the point. Gav may be a good man in the know otherwise? ilicos
There is a company called txtconnections that does this for the dental industry but there are also packages that you can buy that allow you to control and administer this for yourself. Shane
I have a Fixed Wire Terminal here you can borrow, its unlocked to all networks and although its not what we use them for, I am 90% sure that they can be used for bulk SMS sends. I am not sure if I have the all the supplied software still but this would be available from Motorola's site if not. It would need powering either mains or car adaptor, think its 12v. Any use? Edit- Just checked and the one I have left is a Ericcson not a Motorola. Had a quick google and it seems there is freeware/software available to sms from it's usb interface. Also found a small power invertor that the PSU will run happily from using a car lighter outlet.

Chris Wilson
Hmmm, they don't listen anyway. Using SMS to talk to your friends is like having sex by proxy, not the real thing at all
