markybhoy86
Hi all This has been happening for a while now but Ive not bothered my arse getting round to finding out the problem. Mostly from cold when I accelerate it seems to take a few seconds for it to react, then as if it catches up it goes. It happens when the car is up to temp as well,if I'm on the motorway and drop a gear, foot down,it doesn't want to pull for a few seconds then it catches up. Any ideas or things I can check? Ps before Scott says I'm a mechanic,I'm not anymore back to the engineering trade. Forgot to say : it's a tt manual, decat, boost controller set to 1.2,plugs gaped to whatever the setting on here told me .8 I think it was. scotty71
your 0.1mm out on the gapping for a start - upto 1.2 bar is 0.7mm IIRC maybe a sticky actuator? or gay driving
Samurai 20V
I had the same issue with a sticky EGR actuator..

Can you describe what is happening in more detail, I don't understand what you mean by "it catches up"? Are you saying there's a delay with the turbo(s) coming online, or the engine revving but you're not getting drive (ie. worn clutch), etc.
markybhoy86
If i have changed gear and I put my foot down it feels like nothing is happening and after a few seconds it shunts up to speed, happens a lot when cold but I've noticed it a few times when I have changed gear? I hear the turbo spool up but it's not revving or spooling in a way that it would be a worm clutch, they seem to stay the same until the jerk/hesitation has went away
dr_jekyll
tps? my car does that if if forget to plug it back in
Scott
What revs are you at when this is happening? If you are going from say 4th to 3rd and it takes you to 4k+ RPM you might see a delay in the turbos spooling. This can be made a lot worse if the IACV VSV is on the way out. I've seen it a few times where the 2nd turbo doesn't spool when dropping down and it often took to over 5k before the power came on properly. markybhoy86
It's low revs, can be any gear really,am not hammering it when it happens am just putting my foot down to accelerate.
Scott
TPS, coil pack clips, EGR are the main suspects for that I would have thought. If it was the cam sensor or crank I think you would have bigger issues.
markybhoy86
Is there a way I can check the tsp and egr?I'm going to pull the plugs out today and check my gap, positive I set it properly but never know
Nic
I'd fit a new set of plugs, they're not expensive and will rule out any plug issue. FAQ - Spark Plugs Sequential Turbo Problems
Scott
Is there a way I can check the tsp and egr?I'm going to pull the plugs out today and check my gap, positive I set it properly but never know Tps is a resistance check. Simply unplug and check the resistance across the pins. Should be a certain value at open and a certain value at closed. Limits are in the manual. Best thing to do with the egr valve is take it off and clean it. I'm sure geo did a tutorial on that a while back. Check the coil pack clips when you're checking the plugs, just to rule them out. markybhoy86
The plugs are new,I bought them about a month ago when I turned the boost up,that's when I gaped them.I'll check the resistance, plug gap and have a look at the guide for doing the egr and let use know where I end up .cheers
markybhoy86
Just read on here that j-spec supras don't have egr?is this correct?I havnt mentioned mine is a j-spec so my fault for that
