Guest drummerboy08
Has anyone ever seen this done? Is it possible to replace the 5 speed manual in the N/a with a 6 speed manual box from a TT? I'm wondering is it an easy enough job to do, or does it take a bit of trickery to fit?
Dan_Turism0
my N/A has the 6speed box but it's factory my first question would be why would you want to change the 5spd na to a 6spd?
dude
Why would you want to put a 6 spd in an NA
Gaz6002
Why would you want to put a 6 spd in an NA I'm guessing to get ready for a TT conversion at a later date when insurance is more favourable... but if that's the case the gearbox will push up the insurance too
dude
I would put the TT in first then go for a 6 spd if i ever broke it.
supra steveo
i want that but purely for motorway cruising
pedrosixfour
i want that but purely for motorway cruising There is feck all difference between a 5 & 6 speed in that respect. The top ratios are nearly identical, the 6 speed is just a closer ratio box requiring an extra gear to get there. A final gear (diff) change is a far cheaper option for better motorway cruising. But acceleration will be sacrificed somewhat. If you are set on a 6 speed box a diff change will be required anyway.

Guigsy
The 5 is a nicer box IMO.
Nic
Facelift NA Supras were factory fitted with the V160/161 6spd box, although with different gear ratios to the TT, see HERE I'd stick with the 5spd box unless you can get hold of a 6spd box from an NA. The easiest and cheapest thing to do (as far as I know) would be to get your hands on a J-spec TT auto diff and fit it to your car with the 5 speed box. That'll drop your final drive from roughly 4.1 to 3.8 which in turn will drop your engine speed by about 8% for a given road speed & gear combination. The only drawback to that is your speedo will be out, on the slow side, probably by the same amount, so you'll need to be mindful of your indicated speed or just use GPS. Guest Jamesmkiii
My 1993 was a NA Auto Factory car. We put a v161 and 3.266 rear behind the NA motor before I did my TT swap. It was an excellent combination. The freeway cruising was around 2800rpm at 128kmh. But if you never plan to do a turbo swap then just find a different rear diff with a lower ratio. No mate, the NA 5 speed and the NA auto have the same diff ratio, 4.083:1.
supra steveo
cool thats good to know at least i dont have to buy a new diff
Kirk
My 1993 was a NA Auto Factory car. We put a v161 and 3.266 Where did you get the 3.266 rear end from ?
Guest Jamesmkiii
Where did you get the 3.266 rear end from ? The 3.266 came with the V161 Swap. The whole swap came from a Jap Spec NA. It was ordered from Jdm Imports in the States. I would prefer a 3.133 myself just to drop the RPM's slightly lower Edited August 4, 2011 by Jamesmkiii (see edit history)
Kirk
Surely though the car must of felt slow with such long gears?
Guest Jamesmkiii
It did not feel slow because the V161 and 3.266 is from a NA car. So it felt like a normal 5-speed car with overdrive. My car is GTE Swapped now with a 6265 precision turbo around 500whp. The shorter V161 gears are excellent and it pulls very nice in the top end. No it feels like it could use the 3.133 from the USDM TT 6-speed cars. Edited August 4, 2011 by Jamesmkiii (see edit history)

dude
really the 5 speed i put in my N/A aerotop really feels like it needs another gear , is having an N/A auto diff going to make any difference ? Try a J spec TT auto diff.
