ksbkrew
So after all, sorry for my english i'm french my car is a uk spec , and i had fitted a single turbo with an OBX T04S turbo (i know this is not a good turbo ) After 300miles, i 've got a big blue smoke coming through the exhaust and at the junction between the hotside and the downpipe i put all the stuff down to see where the problem is located , so : -no oil in the intercooler and in the piping -no oil in the manifold -no oil in the intake so the problem is coming from the turbo i start again the car and remove the DP , to see the wheel from the hotside. And when i idle, i can see oil leaking from the wheel First i was thinking that the turbo is a bad one and seals 's been dead this morning, i dissasemble the turbo and here it 's what i found : http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/6374/img7845v.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/1293/img7846k.jpg http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/7259/img7848a.jpg http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4176/img7850i.jpg http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/4011/img7852p.jpg so for me , it's not the seals, it's an oil problem, the turbo hasn't been oiled and had been in too high temperatures. I had look my oil feed line and i think that the problem is coming from here and i 'd like your help to confirm it and not make the same mistake twice with the new turbo At the exit of the block, i 've got a restrictor like that http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/2527/img7854u.jpg after i've got this oil line with an -4an http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/28-long-Mitsubishi-Turbo-Oil-Feed-Line-Aeroquip-4an-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5193b9782fQQitemZ350370756655QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories and finally got the flange over the turbo to fit the line but i haven't see when i've put it that there 's a restrictor in it too. http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/7641/img7853.jpg so i think my problem is coming from the two restrictors i've got, there's not enough oil in the turbo. Could you confirm me those things? -a -4an line is enough for a single turbo or shall a need a bigger? -do i need a restrictor in the line? -is it better to put it at the exit of the block or at the entry of the turbo? all help will be cool! thanks for reading Tom
dandan
Sorry to hear about the problems. My personal opinion is that for this turbo you would only need a single -03 oil line with no restrictors as it is not a DBB cartridge. How big is your oil drain? ksbkrew
oil drain is 10 or 12an
heckler
when I had my non DBB turbo, it had no restrictor in the oil feed...
ksbkrew
so the solution (after replacing the turbo) is to put a full 3an line without restrictor? i don't want to smash another one. the next will be a T61 XS power (i need a cheap turbo to drive the car until december, after i will put a precision T61) , will it be ok with the AN3 line? many thanks
supra matt
You dont need the restrict er in there, you have starved the turbo of oil runing its like that mate . Yoh only restrict dbb turbos , Yes, _3 will be fine .
T2 MSW
Can you not source new internals for this unit or get it rebuilt? May be cheaper than buying an XS power unit now (which I would not recommend) and then a PT at a later date.
ksbkrew
rebuild will cost me more than buying a new unit i 've look after new internal but can't find them anywhere The Xs will be only temporaly , as i will switch in a few month and i'm looking only after 420whp so i thnik it will make his job for the money. T2 MSW
As long as you know the XS power units are not going to be the best quality out there, you basically get what you pay for. IMO of course
ksbkrew
i totally agree with you but cannot pay now for a real good turbo and need my car asap so it will be really temporaly
ksbkrew
and an -4an will it be good? because i've got one
Chris Wilson
-4 may be OK, -3 should be plenty though Edited August 3, 2011 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
ksbkrew
i'm a little lost in the size i found this on ebay: an 3an hose for feed line http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbocharger-Turbo-AN3-3AN-Oil-Feed-Feeding-Line-1m-/160602822345?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2564ac96c9 when i see the page, it indicates: Hose Inside Diameter (in:cm) 1/8” : 3.17mm Hose Outside Diameter (in): 1/4" 0.25 in. : 6.35mm so inner diameter is 1/8 or 3.17mm but i was thinking that an 3an hose was : 3/16 inch so 4.7mm not 3.17mm what's the right thing??? because my feed line (that i've already get) has -4an fitting but when i mesures the inner diameter is very near of 1/8" so 3.17mm can someone help me? thanks
