Duffers
Keep changing the stanley knife blades too - carpet kills blades like I don't know what (well, like carpet does I guess... ) as you WILL cut it wrong with a blunt knife! Good luck!
Wolf
Depends if your a carpet fitter really! It's more difficult if you haven't got the right tools like stretchers - but if you call a fitter direct rather than through the big carpet stores they are dirt cheap - my bedroom one (which was over 5m wide by nearly 10m long and needed a join was only £60 to do and my stairs and landing 2 weeks ago was £45)
Supragal
hmm, that sounds interesting. Where is that guy based Wolf, maybe I should give him a call?
Wolf
These were 2 different people both based in High Wycombe - easiest way is to go in to your nearest carpet right or diy store and collect some of the business cards they leave on the boards - I think the prices should be similar all round the country... Ark
When your already paying a couple of hundred quid to the shop, what's another £50 for proper fitting? Saves so much arsing around co-ordinating different people. Just sign your life away on your credit card Had our bedroom fitted last Friday - really pleased with it. BTW get some good underlay too! Oh yeah, that welcome package arrived too - Thanks Supragal.
Supragal
I've just been advised that if you use the fitters through the big stores they are silly money so to find someone private to do it. PLus if I did it myself it would be more personal... but if it involves "carpet stretchers" then I won't bother
BigRoy
carpet right dont charge much to fit. I think I paid £60 ish for a bedroom which was 9 by 10.
Supragal
It's actually all too confusing now. it was someone who works FOR carpet right that said their labour was expensive We'll see tomorrow. Can they come round straight away and do it or do you/did you have to wait weeks/months??
MichaelG
Yellow Pages ----> Phone Call ----> Independent Fitter ----> Mucho Cheapness
Ark
Ask for a quote. If you don't like the price, you don't have to take it. It took about two weeks to get fitted, but most of that was waiting for the right colour carpet to be delivered by the manufacturers. Once it was available, it was fitted after about two days - 1 hour (ish) job for a room 3m x 4m. (As with most workmen, offer 'em a cup of tea - I find it makes them more predisposed to do a good job)
Digsy
You can buy carpet stretchers for about £35 from Argos. I have a cheap but cheerful Clarke one for when I have to take parts up for running wires etc. However, I'd advocate getting a pro to fit first time. Its would be a pain to cut it wrong or have it go all slack and ruck up after a few months.
straightsix
Pity you're too far away....I'd do it for tea!!
Aerotop Dave
Carpet Right don't employ fitters - all their fitting work is contracted out to local carpet fitters, so I dunno who you were talking to. I'd get someone out of yellow pages matey.
