Guest artbran
I have a 1997 Supra with a 2002 VVT-i 2JZ-GTE with V161 swapped into it. I have always been able to get some good information from this forum compared to the US forums and almost anywhere else which is why I'm coming here again. I have code 42 pop up once in a while which I really don't mind. It's probably due to the SLD that I installed with a patch harness. Either way, I need to find out what code 89 is as it's starting to show up a bit more often recently.. So when it comes to the 2JZ-GTE VVT-i, what does code 89 lead to being bad or going bad? Thank you in advance! -Art
jot_ie
Found this on the clublexus.com forum Hope it explains the code 42 Also have a look here http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?421554-O-D-blinking looks like the two codes are common to an engine+transmission swap code 89 appears to be a trac ecu fault Hope it helps
Guest artbran
Well thank you. The motor and trans I transplanted into this car came from a front clip that I purchased. I personally pulled the motor and trans, extended the harness to fit the LHD and "dropped" it into the car myself. I didn't transplant the trac system as I didn't want it nor did I transplant the ABS from the clip. My ABS is working, but there is no communication between the wheel sensors and the engine ECU. This way it doesn't know that the tires are breaking loose. So the set up is the VVT-i 2JZ-GTE with the proper V161 Getrag using the manual VVT-i ECU I might also add that the trac components like the ECU from the 97 shell were removed. Now what puzzles me with these codes is that when I put the motor in, there were no codes at all. Then code 42 showed up recently which again I'm not that worried about as many have dealt with it and I'm more than sure it's due to to the SLD. Just recently the car started to buck and loose power a bit with a check engine light which went out after a few seconds and the car went back to driving normally. Checking the stored code, it flashed 42 and then 89 but as you can see all the English language manuals only go to 78 so there lies my dilemma. If it's trac related then I wonder why as it wasn't there from the get go and the trac system is not hooked up. Either way, I'm rebuilding the car this coming winter/spring with a single turbo, new clutch, fuel fuel system and EMS so any harness issues (if any) will be taken care of with the new one I'm making. Just have to make sure that all the gremlins are out before it goes under the knife Edited August 1, 2011 by artbran (see edit history)
