Chris Wilson
I have bought some high end GEMS data loggers that log to PCMCIA cards. ATA Flash and SRAM cards to be precise, up to 1 GB in size. Now, I think I can just put one in my old laptop and it will read it, having a PCMCI slot? But how do I transfer date off them direct to my main PC? Thanks. Pixelfill
not certain, but would it not just appear as a removable drive?
Heyrick
Would this help: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PCMCIA-HDD-PC-Card-ATA-Flash-IDE-Reader-Adapter-/390300000061?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5adfb15f3d Trouble is, it's internal. Maybe you could leave it out the back somehow.
Guest ugp
Yes, it will open up as a removable storage device. You can just drag and drop the files off onto your desktop / my docs etc.
Chris Wilson
I didn't explain very well, my laptop has a PCMCIA slot, so I can presumably just slip the card in and it will see it as a removable drive, as you say. But my desktop PC has no slot or means to connect the card, I think I need some sort of external reader? Cheers.
Chris Wilson
I think this is the sort of thing I need, but they are far from cheap!! http://www.iostore.co.uk/products/showdetails.asp?start=0&id=18&subid=0&pid=
Pixelfill
is there anything to stop you networking the two pcs together and sharing the drive on the network? No additional cost if both pcs are networkable. Mike
