Channel 5 news (Pig cruelty)

Just seen the news on channel 5 & was disgusted to see the abuse on pigs in the slaughterhouse. They were putting cigarettes out on their face, hitting them with cricket bats & electrocuting them. All this was caught on hidden cameras that were installed without the owners permission so nothing can be done about it. To matters worse the police are looking into who installed the cameras because they were trespassing. What a joke.

My misses was in tears over that, she a vegetarian anyway, i was disgusted, unfortunately i know what some people are capable of, there are some real sick fuc*s in this world, and i somehow doubt its an isolated case, i just don't know how people can work in slaughter house, i would rather starve, however some people i could happily off!

If you are upset by this and still eat animals you are a morally schizophrenic hypocrite.

Guilty as charged m'lord, should i be taken down now:rolleyes:

I understand the need for the industry, and yes support its perpetuation by eating meat, but if i had to do it myself, i wouldn't, unless it was in a survivalist situation.

Would that then mean that if you had to grow your own veg you wouldn't eat it? ;)

however still do not condone the extra cruelty seen practiced, so this obviously makes me a morally flawed and bad person then.

Yeah it's bad crack like. There was a few other places caught aswell, one of them showed a man throwing birds (i think) at another man who would bat them away with a base ball bat.

Fair comment but why should these people get away with it? I'm sure if a prison warden was to do this to a rapist or child molester on death row he would be locked up beside them. Just because it's an animal that's going to get killed doesn't mean they should get away with torchering them before they kill them.

Did I say any of that? You're no Derren Brown for sure.

Sadly, a job in a slaughterhouse tends to attract some of societies less desirables, it's not going to attract the Einsteins of this world. Whilst conditions have improved in the last twenty years it's still an industry that sees abuse and cruelty and it seems unpalatable for the monitoring authorities to clamp down on it, for some unfathomable reason. There was a chap that went in my local who worked for years in various slaughterhouses, and his tales both made my blood boil and made me weep. He was abusive to his wife and kids, and it would seem the animals in his custody, too. I'm afraid animal libbers are not likely to be at the front of the queue for a job in such places. Perhaps they should be, seeing that they will never make everyone veggies, they could do their bit in a practical way and oversee fair animal slaughter practices.

There have been studies done in the US that show a higher than expected rate of domestic abuse/violence in the families of abattoir workers. The studies link the type of work directly to the abuse. I guess the feelings repressed to commit all that murder (and it is murder) have to be let out somewhere.

As for getting more AR activists into position within abattoirs then, yeah, it may work if you think that a 'kinder' death is better than no death. Not me though. I fall into the abolitionist side of things and would love to see the end of animals used for food. I'll leave the wishy-washy, feel good about yourself stuff to Peta and their kind. There is no reason to eat animals which means that those who do are party to the continuing suffering of countless numbers of different species. There is no pretty way to dress it up.

If those people had feelings or an ounce of compassion they wouldn't eat animals.

Why don't you do something about it? My brother has been a veggie for years and took part in several 'raids' years back when he was involved with the ALF.

I don't agree with any organisation that promotes it's beliefs through violence or illegal activities. To reach the hearts and minds of 'the public' you have to provide them with a sound argument, advice and a smile. Otherwise you just scare them off.

And in the meantime the animals still suffer....

Who else isn't looking forward to eating synthetic meat and veg? :(

The cruelty shown in the abattoir is disgusting, and I'd relish the possibility of more humane methods in general.

However...

I enjoy eating meat, and I don't feel guilty about it. Many species wouldn't exist if it weren't for our food demands. If it's cruel to deprive an animal of it's life (in what should be a humane as possible process), surely the same could be said of insects, plants and even bacteria?

Or should my compassion be based on cell count, intelligence or mannerisms?

FAO RedM

For someone who jumps on people like myself for showing a lack of tolerance you need to know you aren't that much different.

Trouble is that people like yourself cause death, misery, suffering and so on through your intolerance. So, your go, you murderer.
