De-cat woes: whifbitz decats na

Hi all,

having some problems with the fit of whifbitz decat for my na.

Got the pipes second hand and they seem in good condiction.

Had them fitted recently and found that the front decat was blowing at the flange where it connects to the forward of the two manifolds quite badly. The flange on the rear of the two was also blowing but less badly.

Removed the decat and re-sealed using firegum sealer. Lasted all of about one day before its started blowing again. It looks like there is very little overlap on the forward flange with the manifold, but I assume other people have sorted theirs with not issues?

Im not using the "gasket rings" from the old cat as didnt think they would fit with the decat pipes.

Rang whifbitz a while back and they suggested using loctite 5920. Have got hold of some of that and will try it 2mrw.

Any other things anyone can think of before I do it again only to achieve the same crap results? :banghead:

ah thanks. Any ideas where I can get new gaskets for the lot?

Asked the guys at whifbitz and they said they don't make any and don't use them.... would seem logical to me that you would need gaskets, so bit at a loss.

Make sure you get gaskets with the fire ring which is basically a steel ring on the inside of the gasket or you will be changing them every week, I blew through 3 in 3 weeks but this new one has lasted over a month with no blowing.

Check eBay bud.

I always use gaskets. My decats were supplied with them also. If you are using a restrictor ring you will need one for either side of it.

Not sure what the 1st decat gasket looks like. I think it's something like this...

I couldn't find any 3" ones though.

Do you know off the top of your head what size they are, mine are still bolted on at the moment so can't measure them....

Think your links relate to the turbo....don't have a restricter ring in the na? Also looks like a 2.5bore exit from decat, but the two exits from manifold look smaller...maybe 2 inch.

Yeah you're right, sorry lol. The 2 hole gaskets should be the same though.

Not sure which gasket goes from the n/a header tbh.

Are the flanges on the decats flat or do they have a recess for a circular gasket? If it has a recess then you can ue stock compressible gaskets, if not you'll need to use similar to what Scott has posted.

The decats are flat flange.....so will try those

I take it you all just use the gasket and no extra sealer?

Found some measurements for the header pipe... bore looks like 47-48mm (just over 1 3/4" with hole spacing of 95mm roughly).

ordered a couple of these to try: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140425061047&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

slightly larger bore, but should still seal around the flange hopefully.

Also ordered a couple of universal 2.5" ones for centre cat.

Hopefully that will sort it......
