Key worn out, can't start car...

Hey guys bought a car last weekend in UK. I allready nocited when i turned the key in the contact it wasn't going easy, but i didn't find it a big issue as i had allready bought a new key with contact as replacement.

Now the next morning when i got back from UK i couldn't start the car at all, again i thought no problem i'll just change the lock.

But supposidly the keyhole thing only comes out if you can turn the key to the first stop saying "acc", but my key won't even turn that far anymore.

This is not the best explanation i know but surely someone who has had this problem knows what i'm talking about. How did you guys fix this? The only option i see is drilling the keyhole out so the little yellow pin on top would come loose and i can take the entire locksystem out. The yellow pin only drops when you turn the key to "acc".

I know i could probably have a new key made but i think it's going to be a bit expensive(has anyone ever done this?). And considering i have another key with lock that looks like new i'd rather use that one.

And no there is no spare key.

Have you tried jiggling it in the lock??? Or get it to a bad part of town and leave it with the key in the lock and hide in the back, when someone tries to steal it jump out wearing a leather thong and covered in Jam, they will run off terrified and you can drive home and remove the lock.

you use to be able to get a new key from toyota dealer with chassis number and logbook

I know costs about 200£ i think, trying to avoid that.

but if the key is worn what can he get copied??

Indeed, can't be copied as would be the same as the worn one.

I think this is the best option i have, but i don't want to fook the seats with jam when i drive back...

I suppose if you get a key made, you'll still have the same key for rest of the car. Send it to me and I'll get one made :)

Wait you are confusing me now lol. If i send you the key you will make a new one that isn't worn? Are you a sorcerer? :D

£40 from mr toyota. just gave then chassis number and key supplied 5 days later, works perfect.

I did try haveing a key cut for £5, after 3 attempts he and i gave up and he even gave me my £5 back

Only 40£?? Man Toyota Belgium is such a b***h

Indeed but sometimes they can still make a functioning one from a bad one.

I had a worn key to my old Skyline and he had to adjust it a couple of times but worked like a charm after that.

I thought that too but the guy who makes the keys says it won't work...i'll try someone else.

No you send me the lock. If you can get it off.

Can't get it off Iky...

Btw how did them headlights come out? Did you finish them?

depending on the key they can cut a new one from the old key, but does sound very like the barrel has gone does the key work in the boot and doors?

i had the same thing could get away with wiggling the key for months then one day stuck after a hour of wiggling started and got me home but then had to put new barrel and key in,

Yes i was thinking it might be the barrel too. I can open the car from the passengersside but i can't open it from the driversside with this key. The boot works fine. As the boot and passengersside work just fine it might just be the barrel? I think the driversside lock is out of order too. The problem i have is that i can't get the little yellow pin from the barrel down, you know the one that actually keeps the barrel in place. You say you could turn it one more time after wiggling for an hour, well i gave up after half an hour but will try some more... If it doesn't turn then only solution is drilling the barrel out?

sorry to say yes drilling is the way, when wiggling the key try slighly back and forth when fully in, well just every way take key in and out every couple of ges put wd40 in the barrel, this is how i gotaway from the supermarket i was stuck at went back in a bought some wd40 but that was the last time it turned and i tryed for hours again after that with no joy.

so if you do manage to get it to go one click GET THAT BARREL OUT!

I've just spoken to my toyota parts supplier and we can sort you out a new key.

The cost would be approx £25

They would need the number off the side of the key

The cars log book, a copy of your driving

license and a utility bill from your house. This is for security

Can be done in under 1 week

Thx a lot DNK that's really cheap !

But the problem being that i just bought the car in UK, it isn't even registrated here as i didn't even get the chance to drive it once back in Belgium. I don't know what the logbook would look like and i'm sure i just don't have it(never had it from a supra). And a utility bill from my house? Don't know what you mean by that.

The only thing i have is a salescontract between me and the buyer, the V5, some MOTpapers and my driverslicense...but i guess that won't get me far will it? And the number on the key i have that ofcourse.

The V5 is the logbook, a utility bill is what you get from your gas, electric or water supplier, it

helps prove where you live and should be the same as your address on your license and on the V5

They need these to stop just anyone getting keys cut for cars they dont own.

Ok thx for the info.

I'll contact toyota here in Belgium and ask if they could do it as i don't want to cause you to much trouble. But i had been told it would cost over 200£ that's why i didn't even bother asking here.

I'll keep you up to date

try this to get the ign barrel out. go to hardware shop a buy some graphite powder. squeze some in the barrel and poke the key in and out a few times. then you may be able to turn the barrel to acc for removal. then take barrel to locksmith and have a ney key made.

you could also remove boot or pass side barrels and use them to make a new key

surely if you had the key number you could go any locksmith and have one cut from the original code. i took my key to get cut and the one they gave me back looked nothing like the key i gave them they said it was done from the original code not the cut key i had

The code will mean nothing to anyone other than a Toyota dealership for obvious security reasons ...
