From 70's E9 3.0 CSi to the new M6, where did BMW styling go so wrong?

A beautiful car, even though an ex girlfriend's dad died in one in particularly nasty circumstances, these to me are timelessly beautiful, sensibly uncomplicated, and compared to modern stuff, lightweight machines. Compare it with the new M6 and I have to ask, which is the more stylish, and where is modern car styling going? Even the interior is lovely. I suppose `elf `n' safety preclude cars with lovely slim pillars and great airy visibility on the grounds of roll over strength.

I almost bought an immaculate E9 a few years ago, I was put off the lack of available spares iirc. Stunning car though.

I like the M6, though I wouldn't call it a looker. Horribly complicated too by the looks of it, which I imagine will get worse on newer models with BMWs recent obcession with turbocharging and stop/start technology. (surely, stop-start is bad for turbocharged vehicles?)

Why? Most systems will only kick in when conditions are optimum... otherwise you'd have a load of drivers with flat batteries! :)

I guess, but that would mean that it wouldn't be used half the time?

Just another thing to go wrong IMO. When these stop/start cars start getting a bit older, it'll be interesting to see how many stop permanently :D

It's all about the bottom line tailpipe CO2 emissions mate. These things make a negligable difference in real life, but a big one to your tax bill :)

I've driven a few so far that have caught me out... in my old Mazda3 long-termer I almost got crashed into on the M25 thanks to that!

My brother has an original 3.0 CSL Batmobile same colour scheme as this one.

My first Beema was a 2002 tii in motosport colours but with the turbo removed and some

large Webbers bolted on along with a silly big cam :)

Those were the days :)

Yes back in the late 70's it was awesome, great fun wooping the mk1 escort boys in their mexicos :D

No idea on my bro's car's value but yes i think its quite valuable. Wish i still had the 2002 :(

I'd love a 2002 Turbo, should think they're stupidly expensive now though.

Because their very rare, worth every penny though
