Engine Tick

I have been developing an engine tick over the last 2 months or so. Its really quite hard to describe. It has a noise like an exhaust blowing but its got a tick to it like it could be the cam or engine related.

The thing is you cant hear it in the car, its only when you over take a car or go down a road with parked cars or a wall with the windows down, the noise level stays constant but it increases with the revs of the engine when driving.

I know that one of my turbos has the notorious hairline crack in it so i dont know if it could be gas escaping from that or not?

Im pretty stumped

Can any one help?

A mate of mine said it sounds more like a crack in the exhaust manifold, rather than a tick. It doesnt sound like anything is tapping together, its more like a venting of air in bursts.

Like it could be a loose sparky (but its not) its on of these types of noises that has to be heard not described. But i cant capture it. Really annoying

I think I have this as well. Is it like a fluttering noise from behind the central heater vent?

It's hard to hear unless its absolutely quiet. I asked M-life to have a check but he coudn't hear it. Im going to see him again tomorrow. Hopefully we can trace it.

I'm hoping for it to be a loose heatshield or something because I can hear something underneath which seems co-related.
