Ark
I found a load of old Games Workshop box sets while clearing out the garage - things like Talisman, Space Hulk etc. Seems a shame to just throw them away, so I just wanted to ask whether anyone collected this kind of thing and might be interested in taking them off my hands. Pixelfill
I could be interested depending what you have - particularly Space Hulk / Warhammer 40K stuff. Mike
Soopra
my son made a fortune on Ebay when he quit 40k
marbleapple
It can be worth quite a bit. I collect some but being honest you would make quite a bit on eBay
Pixelfill
Do you think? When you consider how much the stuff was to buy, I think it's barely held its value. I wouldn't sell mine as it won't fetch anywhere near what I paid for it. The latest version (2009) of Space Hulk commands a decent price, but everything else seems pretty low price really. Rob_Mitchell
the pastic models dont fetch nothing no more, the die cast models and especially main HQ characters are where the money is at due to them all being plastic made now. i no longer collect 40k but still involved with the pro painting side of things when i get the odd hour spare (thats where money is earned big time)
Pixelfill
considering most cost upwards of £4 each when new, I see an awful lot still selling for only £0.99 + postage. I still like to paint my figures when I get chance, but what constitutes pro-painted? Mike
marbleapple
considering most cost upwards of £4 each when new, I see an awful lot still selling for only £0.99 + postage. I still like to paint my figures when I get chance, but what constitutes pro-painted? Mike Mike, Games Workshop has actually recalled all their tin models from their shops so that they can melt it down and sell it. Tin is now more valuable than the prices they are selling their models for. On that basis alone the models have gone up in value. They have released a thing called citadel finecast where the models are made out of cheaper resin as an alternative. Like all toys, prices vary. Necrons for example are very valuable at the moment. Some are selling for more than they are bought new because games Workshop has pulled the line prior to them re-releasing the army in the next few months. I have also found the older models, unpainted or in blisters fetch a premium. I sell old toys as a bit of a hobby (57k turnover last year) and the way I see it is that people in their late 30's onwards start to have surplus monies to buy toys they used to have. Applying this ethos to Games Workshop (which I think started in 1984) you are looking at another 10 years before these toys starting fetching a real premium but it is the first and second series metal models that you should start buying now (and which I think are going up in price). With regard to pro painted, I think it is pretty evidence as to what is pro painted or not. If you don't shade, use links etc then chances are it isn't pro painted. I pay £6 a space marine for a guy to paint them and have even painted £60 for one model to be painted. I figure in the long run I will get a decent return on my investments (better than bank interest rates in any event).
Ark
Crickey, I just looked up a few of the things I've got on ebay - £40 for talisman, £80 for Deathwing, in used condition too... I could be sitting on a small goldmine here. And all I wanted to do was make more space in the garage!! I'll get a proper inventory this evening and post it up. Ark
OK, so I've gone through what I've got in boxed sets: Advanced Space Crusade (1990) Space Hulk (1989) Deathwing (1989) Space Fleet (1991) Warhammer 40,000(1993) Dark Millenium (1994) Talisman (2nd edition, 1985) Talisman Timescape I also have a load of miniatures both painted and un-painted from the same kind of time (early 90's), but I haven't listed out what just yet.
