Lurch
This is the one I've got. Not very impressive, but does the job... Reads engine codes and clears them. Had it for about a year and used it alot. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U380-CAR-Diagnostic-Fault-Code-Reader-Scan-OBDII-EOBD-/200633119852?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2eb6aa746c
Angarak
If you have an Android Smarthphone there is an app called "Torque" that you can use to read OBDII via a OBDII Bluetooth connector ...thought I'd mention it. Suprab1
The Autel maxi scan units are good. A mate of mine has one & when our Delphi (€3500) unit in the garage couldn't read a car i borrowed his & it read & erased the fault codes. Oh & his was only about €50. I'm thinking of buying one for at home but i will look at a more expensive version to his that will do ABS, Air bags & hopefully reset brake callipers aswell. Chris Wilson
I have always found make specific readers are the best. Best of the best is Bosch KTS, but VERY costly, the generic ones are pretty limited. I have only found one reader that has full functionality on all TT Supras, again a costly one. For basic stuff though some of the Ebay ones seem to do OK. I bought an el chapo one for the wife's Stagea, and it doesn't work....
mellonman
some of them are well cheap.

Angarak
Might give this a try. What adapter do you think will work with this? Any of the ones listed on that eBay link you showed? The best one seems to be the PLX Kiwi Bluetooth connector but it is only suitable for 1996+ cars. It's not cheap (£80-100) compared to the other ones on ebay that are around £30, but it does appear to be more reliable - so a case of 'you get what you pay for' would appear to apply: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLX-KiWi-Bluetooth-OBDII-Android-mobile-devices-/110658960938?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item19c3c9be2a Note: Only the VVTI Supra's have OBDII, earlier models are OBDI (info: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?233488-Supra-and-OBD-II&highlight=obdII)

Tricky-Ricky
The one in my sig, Nissan Skyline 350GT, it uses a combination of CAN bus and K line for OBD2 communication.

Suprab1
The one in my sig, Nissan Skyline 350GT, it uses a combination of CAN bus and K line for OBD2 communication. Strange they never just made it standard OBD2. Do these work if you have a standalone? I would be surprised if they would as it is difficult to find one which connects to the stock Supra ECU. I could be wrong though.
Chris Wilson
Do these work if you have a standalone? Almost certainly not, but most good aftermarket mappable ecu's have superb diagnostics via the mapping software.

EMPEROR
Anyone knows if this will work on a VVTi? http://www.obdreaders.com/OBD+Readers/3140+Innova+Diagnostic+Code+Scanner+for+OBDI%2FOBDII+Vehicles/10/ Of if you could recommend me some other scanner that will work on a VVTi a 100%? Chris Wilson
Carman Scan Lite will work, but it's expensive.
EMPEROR
Anything else, a little bit cheaper? Just for reading fault codes?
Chris Wilson
I have never found anything, I don't think it outputs true OBDII codes anyway. My Bosch KTS will read some stuff, but that's a lot dearer still than the Carman Scan Lite. What did Toyota themselves use? It'll be considered old now, and a Toyota garage may well be happy to sell it off.
EMPEROR
http://www.obdiiscanner.com/professional-tool/launch-x431.html This one works too, but still a lot more than I can afford... Toyota dealers in my country will sell it for 10x-20x the original price... as all other parts... That's why I don't use them... If I can find the protocol at least, I can make my own reader
