neo2810
I took my car in for a re-gas this morning as the aircon had stopped blowing cold and the guys have tested and found the gas is full and the aircon is working perfectly when the compressor is powered independantly, pointing to an electrical fault. I've got it booked in on Monday for an auto electrician to take a look but apart from obvious fuses, is there any other common wiring problem I can check before letting them take carte blanche on it? Steve
Have you tried doing a diagnostic check on the air con? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?218316-How-To-Aircon-Diagnostics&highlight=air+con+diagnostic
neo2810
Thanks steve, this linked threads make interesting reading. I've done the diagnostic and the defrost is blinking (bottom right button in pic) so indicates the solar sensor circuit. Anything I can do or best to just pass that info to the auto lekky? ScottC
Did you do the diagnostic test in sunlight? From the pic it looks like it was dark at the time.

I did the test about 20 mins ago so yes, it was dark... I didn't realise sunlight was a necessary ingredient of the test

I've just moused over the "solar sensor" link and now feel like a prize idiot... And I quoted myself... UGH! I'm going to bed! I'll run the test again in the morning...... in sunlight

Drew_flux
when you say, works with condenser powered. do you mean compressor? i think you have a faulty a/c clutch relay. there are only 3/4 things that can cause the a/c to turn off. pressure sensor, lock sensor on compressor, open circuit from control unit, evap temp sensor and lastly a busted control unit. before you send it to the sparky test for activation signal at the relay. neo2810
Duplicate!
neo2810
Well spotted Drew, yes I meant compressor! The engi at the aircon place said he bypassed the pressure switch (I think) and used his own power source to complete the aircon circuit and it worked perfectly (maybe he tested the relay?). Gas is full, compressor worked fine and air coming out the vents was cold as you would expect. He therefore reckoned the fault was a wiring fault somewhere between the aircon ring and the battery I guess. I've run the diagnostic again and this time (in sunlight) Auto is flashing which indicates all normal. How do I test at the relay (assuming that's not what he did)? Guest ugp
Mine did this a while back, was a corroded blade on one of the relays. Give me a bell tomorrow.
