SUPRALOOPY
They are a hunting dog and NEED lots of exercise and stimulation or they get bored and can turn nasty/destructive etc.. Go to a good training class and stick with it and all should be good. HTH

I was going to rescue one but after researching realised I couldnt give it the home it needed.

Are they okay off the lead as we have miles of fields round here They get 2-4 hours a day & they run and swim for most of that, they are never on a lead unless they,re at shows or some where else they are very intelligent & learn very quick my 1st one went to boot camp for 8 weeks & she is very obedient my young dog is learning pretty quick. They are hard work to start with but worth every minute when they get to a year old or so
bigbloodyturbo
we've had 3 in our family over the years. They're great dogs and extremely protective of the family, the first one too much so but the subsequent one's were faultless. Our last one died of leukemia and was very very attached to my father, when he left the house the dog would pine for him for ages and even the slightest sound of someone in the driveway made him jump up hoping it was him. This was our fault as we missed the previuos dog so much that when we got murphy we sortoff over compensated! As for a family dog they're a bit big for young kids but for 10years+ they're great, i grew up with them and i think you'd struggle to find a more loyal breed. If you want to work them they are also very very good, very strong and not likely to tire at all. only thing i can say is that 2 of our 3 had dietery problems and needed special food, don't know if its a common thing or just bad luck though. I have the number for a breeder in Bathgate scotland, they where very good.
