SMW
Anyone else have 18" Blitz Z1 Technospeed alloys on their car? I need new rubber and and the existing set are too skinny for the wheels IMO. Wheel's are 10" rear and 9" front. Current tyres are 265/35/ZR18 rear and 235/40/ZR18 front. (Toyo Proxes T1-S) Is there a recommended tyre size for the Supra with this size of wheels? (I'm thinking along the idea of rolling radius which I think has been mentioned before on here, can't find the thread though.) Definitely need wider rubber as I've kerbed 3 of the wheels due principally because the tyres I have don't afford any protection to the rims..............ouch:(
Paul Whiffin
285/30x18 and 245/40x18 are the norm on 18" I think, with some wheels you have to roll the back arches though, depends on offset and which tyre make you use. Paul
Steve Cargill
The Lexus 18' rims take 275x35 and 245x40 as standard.
B3any
Thats what i was gonna say having purchased a set. What Paul said... although min were 245/35/18 & 285/30/18 Or something like that.
Alex
They might look skinny but that's not always the thing to consider. I've gone from 255-285 on the rear and noticed that my top-end has been slowed. If you're not running out of grip then no need for bigger tyres. And if you are then that's probably more to do with the compound than the size.
Paul Whiffin
Or to much power, my last set of Yok's dissapeared in a world record time of around 2000 miles now I'm spinning the wheels through 3rd gear in the dry..going to try some 285/30x19 Michelins out, see what there like. SMW
If you're not running out of grip then no need for bigger tyres. And if you are then that's probably more to do with the compound than the size. I think it's more a case of running out of tread than having insufficient grip, interesting what you say about stunting the top end though.............couldn't be doing with that:) Most places don't seem keen to fit anything other than the sizes that I have, so I'll probably go with another set of the Toyo's. terawua
Dunlop do some tyres with the alloy protection on them.. they are fitted on the BMW M5 SP Sport 9000 or something I think.

SMW
Hi AJI Had a peek at your car, looks great. What brand of tyres do have? Are the rear's 285/30 or a different profile?
AJI
Thanks. The stock profiles were 45-front and 40-rear on 17's. When I went upto 18's I dropped the profile to 40-front and 35-rear. This setup works fine. If you chose any other profile on 18's then your speedo would probably show too much of an error in actual travelling speed.
