grahamc
Our old home PC (in very good condition) is up for sale, not being used, so not worth keeping (we are doing a big clear-out). Its an HP mini-tower PC, comes with a 14" widescreen monitor, keyboard and mouse. We were using the PC to store movies, music and photos which were then streamed via wireless around the house. PC spec: AMD Athlon 64bit 3200 - 2.0GHZ 3GB RAM HDD1 is 186GB HDD2 is 298GB The current OS is a pre-release version of Windows 7 64bit. This will need to be changed. Price is £50 collected, near Redhill, Surrey. Advertised elsewhere

grahamc
cheers - its a good little PC and happily ran Photoshop 4, but no longer use it. I left the pre-release on, so anyone can see it running.

stevie_b
Very interested chap. I just need to sort out a legit copy of Windows to put on it. Out of interest, what happened to the copy of Windows it came with? Also have you got a model number for the PC, just so I can see a photo of it and check the specs? grahamc
Yes... I rebuilt it to pre release version of windows 7. I think it still has the xp key stuck on it somewhere, can check. Never got CDs with it and I have never bothered with them as I get MSDN license through my work.
stevie_b
Does it still have the recovery partition that I can use to restore the WinXP image it shipped with? I'm fine with WinXP (or even Vista if pushed). I've found in the past that using an existing XP key can be hit-and-miss: the installation CD needs to match the key in most cases. I do have the installation CD for a full version of XP, but not sure if it would work with the license stuck on the chassis (especially if it's a volume license which it probably is: a very murky area). If you could dig out the model number whenever's convenient, that would be muchos appreciated.
grahamc
Its an HP Pavillion a1429.UK No, I usually FDisk the drives. Depends on the version of XP that you have.... Normally PCs dont ship with the full versions. Why not just use the key that is with your XP?
stevie_b
I'm using my XP key on another PC, one that I'll be keeping. So I've got the full installation CD, but not a spare key. Not sure if the key on your chassis would work with my CD, but I'm not expecting you to know that. I'll check this out tonight and get back to you tomorrow or Friday if that's OK. grahamc
Im going to say doubtful, as I'm unsure... OS will be the responsibility of the new owner
stevie_b
I have come across a website to get hold of the recovery CD (so I can restore the HP factory build): https://www.best2serve.com/page/rcd_landing?redirect_product_id=9585 If you get a moment could you dig out the p/n number for me please so I can check if they still stock it, and how much it would be. Sorry about this minor faff.

stevie_b
Likewise Graham. Just out of interest, did you run the PC with a 64-bit OS, or did you install that just for demo purposes? I might put an OEM 64-bit Win7 on it, but wanted to see if it would fully support 64-bit first. The processor almost certainly does. Thanks again, Steve
grahamc
I put the 64bit version on to test... Had no issues, so if I had have kept it, I would have gone for windows 7 64bit.
