Chris Wilson
I find I am using my PC based oscilloscope more and more for diagnostics, but even inside a car that is outdoors in sunlight the screen is hard to see, outside the car, outdoors, on a sunny day, it's useless. Probably a daft question but do some laptops have especially bright screens for use outdoors? Thanks.
sideexitsupra
Hi Chris, what about one of these instead? Do you need the laptop for any reason? http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=IN0599994&CMP=aballbrochure

Guigsy
Check the power save settings. Mine is set to dim the screen when it's unplugged from the mains. I just have not bothered to change it as it's always plugged in.
Chris Wilson
I'll check the settings, to be honest I didn't realise you COULD adjust it I would really like a Toughbook, so they have extra bright screens do they?? Cheers. A Mac is surely a nice PC, but given I use a laptop 95% for motorsport apps, it would be no use as none are written for that platform. Chris you should be able to adjust it from the keyboard normally the fn (function key ) and one of the F keys at the top, brighter the screen the better you can get screen covers but they are just a pain ,if your looking for new laptop look for the highest contrast ratio I would go for led screen not lcd or tft lcd. Or one of these might help

Chris Wilson
Now I bet if someone offered those in carbon fibre to the wealthy guys in the higher levels of motorsport they'd buy them. My pal next door makes carbon fibre pit boards and STOP lollipops at crazy prices, and they all sell....

SupraDan24
Use the FN key and whatever corresponding key it is to turn up the brightness, sometimes its on the F keys, other times the left and right button. Acer laptops have very nice screens and are pretty reasonable price wise. Ive had my Acer 2 years now and its still going strong bar replacing the battery
