I'm looking for a complete change in career as sick of doing 80 hours a week every week so any contacts or help getting on them would be greatly appreciated. Rotational work or ad-hoc is a decision you should make early on in my opinion as im ad-hoc and it pisses me off. I can get a fonecall at 11:30 at night telling me i have to be at the heliport for 6:30 the next morning. I can also go out for 3days or it can and does frequently turn into 4-6 weeks (not north sea but abroad it can) depending on how much of an arse the well wants to be. A lot to be said for rotational work as you know exactly when your goin and when you'll be home and you also know roughly how much you'll earn. Easier to plan your life aswell if you know how your days are going to pan out. You do however meet some good people out here, some proper pr!cs to right enough. Humberside? I was just working on a gas well 10miles north of Hull 2 weeks ago. SSE gas storage, was working through Halliburton. If your trade doesnt really relate to anything offshore there are still plenty jobs you can do. Like the lads say above you ideally want to aim for a job with a rotation. the flexible ad-hoc life can be a real pain in the arse. most rig crew's or service crews will work a 2-2 rotation. Some rigs in the uk northsea are working 2-3 rotations at the moment but I've been hearing some rumours from friends about a lot of company's making plans to revert away from this and back to 2-2 rotations. If you want the high life get yourself a job in norway. The industry is controlled by the unions and they basically dictate wages and rotation. By law your restricted with your work hours etc too. So you'd basically get a 2-4 rotation. only working 12 hour shifts. Only doing 2 week trips(max of 3 weeks by law) and any overtime is payed and is ridiculously highly payed !!!! As mentioned, the Norwegian sector work on a 2-4 rotation, but if they have to stay on after the two weeks(for whatever reason) then they are paid double time and in some cases triple time. Then to add to that, if they have worked for three weeks, they are then entitled to six weeks off. Salary even for the cleaners who make the beds is 26k Nice work if you can get it. monsween Posted July 20, 2011 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Its not all roses. You have to remember if you're on a rotation you will be away from everyone at home for 6months of the year. If you're adhoc you can't plan anything in advance. There are Pretty big downsides to working offshore. You need a medical, survival and mist training before you will even get an interview in these times. Sparks get decent money, especially if you do your time on the north sea then get a job abroad, know one guy getting 100k a year in Ghana for changing lightbulbs. paulj1 Posted July 21, 2011 Author Share Posted July 21, 2011 Hi guys thanks for writing back unfortunately I don't have a back ground in this work but I'm hoping to have the money to do my bosiet and mist training soon I used to work away in America doing 9 months on 3 months off but this was harvesting and working for john deere, I also have a btec national diploma in photography. At the moment I'm a parcel courier doing around 160 drops a day and its crap after 9 years I need a change and some thing to get stuck into hopefully with some prospects, and if I could get a 2 on 2 off or similar rota I would get a lot more quality time with my family as i work around 80 hours a week every week, any contacts or anything would be greatly appreciated as I've heard its not so much what you know as who you know, and any help getting on the rigs would help keep another Supra on the road:d Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
