Paul R
I'm a little bit upset. took my car in for a full geo setup and asked them to lift the car up a bit on the coilovers. they said the platforms are seized to the body of the coilovers and they cant move them (for fear of damaging them). Real pain in the arse as the exhaust scrapes on the driveway even with planks of wood down to lift the car up a bit! I believe they are toms advox coilovers and worth quite a bit of money......so not sure what my options are now. Paul.
GINNO78
Sorry to hear this.....I took mine in last week as my front splitter was catching on my drive.....took them 3 hrs with a big wrench to get them to move!! The C spanners which are used for the job were useless! Mine were not even rusted either! and mine were Tein Super Streets 4 yrs old....luckily they managed to raise it 20mm and couldnt get it to go any higher but it looks spot on now and just clears the drive
Paul R
I'm not sure what to do now. Other than diffing up my driveway!
Dnk
Take them off and de seize them if possible, can you get new platforms for them ?
d-_-b
Plusgas + large flat headed screwdriver + hammer taps 4 hours it took to adjust mine, as they were totally seized. If you can get them moving you can usually clean up the thread. The threads on mine were a state, but after a good cleaning i could spin the ring and it would move up and down the coilover ofit own momentum. Just be careful if doing this with the hammer taps as the rings arnt super tough.
jimojameso
Yeah plusgas and clean up the threads and you'll get them moving eventually!!
TubbyTwo
Wheel off, drench threads in plusgas, SOFT wire brush to clean the threads, and a hammer to get things moving. exactly how I sorted the coilovers on one of my MR2s.
Dnk
I'd pop a spring compressor on them first to reduce the load on the platform before trying and i'd not use a screwdriver and get something that will cause less damage to the ring like a piece of brass bar or copper or even aluminium
Tyson
Adjustable suspension was designed for motorsport use and hence was designed to be constantly adjusted. Not adjusting them for any period of time isn't good as they will just seize on, best way to stop this happening is to adjust them and clean them up every 3 or 4 months to keep them in top shape. Paul R
I've never used plusgas, is it better than wd40? Paul.
marc_p
Quick bit of advice, bit late for the OP but when you get new coilovers(or any exterior bolts/screws you remove or replace for that matter) always coat the thread in copper grease to stop any chance of issues like this. TubbyTwo
Once I had freed mine, every other month or so I used to lightly mist the threads with spray copper grease. worked a treat. The salt and rust really hammered mine
Homer
Hope you have more luck than I did - this is what you have to do if they are completely seized: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?250142

Paul R
Any idea where I could get some new seats/rings for these coilovers, just in case?
