Dim Sum
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this, I have a 6 speed n/a with the bigger brake set up. I've got it imported last year and the time has come and i want to put the TT engine in. I've spoken to my car insurance company and they wont accept it if i swap the engine. But the strange thing is that if i go to any insurance company they all say its a "TOYOTA SUPRA TURBO 2010 2997cc Three Door Hatchback Manual Petrol" So maybe i could just ring up and get them re-clarify what Im insured on? The first year of insurance which is last year says TOYOTA SUPRA TURBO 2010 2997cc Three Door Hatchback Manual Petrol this year its a TOYOTA SUPRA 2010 2997cc Three Door Hatchback Manual Petrol. But they won't accept me if i swap the engine because it counts has a engine mod and increasing BHP. Kinda confused.
Dnk
Who are you insured with as they don't sound very up to speed as far as these cars go. Think you should be looking for a company that allows major mods to be done including upping the hp. Mistermann
This is a very strange set up - I am an insurance broker and have never heard of a company backtracking on the description of the car like this before. Really it would need to be insured with a company that understands the nature of the beast - Sky Insurance or Adrian Flux and a few others. So I would be interested in who you are currently with....I have done the same conversion and insured without any problems at all!

Dnk
I'd get some quotes from the specialist brokers and take it from there.
Mistermann
haha - funnily enough, whilst driving the car as an NA i was with admiral but they too just couldnt cope with a jap turbo car and refused to insure it - its because they are a general insurer and not a specialist. Their computer says no....as Dnk says - try the specialists (sky were cheaper than admiral too in my case:D )
Dnk
Im with Admiral car insurance at the moment. If your over 25 try LWIB, they got me great cover on my car with all its mods but it is a UK spec which definitely helps, their worth a try if your old enough Edited July 16, 2011 by Dnk (see edit history)
